The Come Up Show 9th Year Anniversary Feat. Blake Carrington + Mack Davis, K. Forest, Cherisha Etnel

The 9th Anniversary of blog and radio show The Come Up Show will pair up with The Hustle tonight to celebrate the new album from Toronto’s Blake Carrington who has just released his LP, photo book, and short film entitled Failure.

It’s been an emotional and challenging past 4-years for Blake Carrington, while raising a young family as a single father, Blake has continued to push forward with his music and overall creative passion. Between Toronto and Los Angeles over the past few years, Blake was able to see first hand the work ethic of US artists and business people he met while in Los Angeles, and combine that with his drive and energy as a buzzing Toronto artist, to bring together his current team to execute a tri-media project surrounding Failure.

Toronto singer/rapper Mack Davis will also appear giving a look at some new music, and Brampton based singer K. Forest will give a first look at his live music that has recently received positive coverage (NOW Magazine’s R&B One’s To Watch) and drawn comparisons to soon to be stadium filler Bryson Tiller. UK based alt-R&B singer Cherisha Etnel will kick-off the evening, as she will appear a week later during Canadian Music Week.

NEW ALBUM: Blake Carrington – F.A.I.L.U.R.E.

BlakeFailure

Congrats to this dude man. Where do I start?

Blake’s BEEN grindin’. I’ve always rated him as one of the purest artists in the city. Not many love and breath this sh*t like he does. And that passion for the art and the culture is clear with F.A.I.L.U.R.E. – which is not only an album but also a short film as well as an ArtBook with photographer-extraordinaire SoTeeOh. Three mediums all released under the F.A.I.L.U.R.E. umbrella. Definitely ambitious for any artist let alone an indie one but for some reason I expect nothing less from Blake. Shouts to him and the whole team!

Album features JellyTooFly, Kardinal Offishall, Tamara Madison, Raz Fresco, Devontee and more as well as production from Rich Kidd, Junia-T, Lord Quest and more. Take it in below and copp that if you want to support via his website.

Lessons from personal failure at the helm of three –part hip-hop music project by homegrown artist, Blake Carrington who, tells his story of retribution, young fatherhood and personal ascension through a combination of music, art and film.

“FAILURE has been an integral part of my life and becoming the person I am today,” said Carrington. “I can only hope that my journey inspires the listeners of this album to love themselves and understand that success and excellence first comes from within.”

The three part project includes an album of 18 carefully mastered tracks featuring a Toronto collaboration featuring artists like Kardinal Offishall, Jelly2Fly, and production from Rich Kidd and Juina T. The album is also accompanied by an art book, co-produced by one of Toronto’s leading photographers, SoTeeOh. The book is compiled of compelling photography creatively depicting Blake Carrington and his evolution as an artist, highlighting some of the inspiration that kept him going.

The final component of FAILURE is a short film, written and directed by Brendon Samuel and Omari Burke from 88 Films. The short features Blake Carrington and Tarek Ibrahim (aka Wav) who play brothers forced to make life changing decisions in order to find a better life. The story is based on actual events.

This unique approach to storytelling and music joins the changing tides in how artists identify and represent themselves, diving deeper into the choice of mediums they choose to explore.

“The F.A.I.L.U.R.E experience” (Album, Short Film, Art Book) launch took place at The ArtScape Sandbox, downtown Toronto on April 16. (4.16.)

Been rooting for this dude from time now man. Looks like the 2015 push is gonna be real nice so shouts to him and the whole team!

Toronto-born, buffalo-bred; Blake Carrington hits the refresh button on the current international Hip Hop scene. Combining his soulful delivery with cleverly crafted lines, he creates heart felt, socially conscious & driven songs to musical compositions that are out of this world. He is an ambitious urban musician failing forward, and making his dreams become a reality. He began rapping at an early age, with a close example in his bloodline, his father, a well-respected hip-hop legend from Buffalo, NY by the name of Dedot; and it is quite apparent that the apple did not fall too far from the tree. After graduating Seneca College in Toronto, Ontario with a diploma in Independent Music Production, Blake took his dreams and passion to a new level.

Released in the summer of 2011, his Dare 2 Dream project, which he created with his super producer friend Ric Notes, was the culmination of many years of hard work and training, and proved to be an international success for Blake and a significant milestone in this young veteran’s musical career.

Blake’s talents have taken him all across the globe, from winning at the world famous Apollo theatre showcase twice to touring in Tokyo, Japan, to sharing stages with the likes of hip-hop legends in every metropolis city in North America. He has shown just how much persistence and hard work it takes to follow your dreams, even when life happens. Blake’s high energy and charismatic personality has led him to recording, performing and sharing the stage with the music industries elite such as Talib Kweli to Snoop Dogg to his current super-star peers from Drake to Kendrick Lamar, & even cross genre electronic acts such as The Far East movement. As the list continues to grow, Blake continues uphold his reputation as a well-respected artist amongst his industry peers. Not stopping there, Carrington’s ability to go after what he wants has opened up various tour opportunities on many of the nation’s most popular concert circuits, ranging from: Sneaker Pimps, SXSW (South By South West), Power 106 Concert series, NXNE (North By North East), Manifesto Festival, The Dope House concert series (2DopeBoyz), Power House, and the list goes on.

So while many play catch-up with his futuristic style, Blake Carrington the “Gentleman on Mars”, is ready to win the race.
