Another example of an artist in the city doing good work who’s just totally flown under the radar. Nice one from Mykal Gannon and the American Way of Death.

Mykal Gannon has accepted that he’s going to die in vain and he’s okay with that. Today Mykal premieres his new Goldsoul and Luca Mauti produced single “Die in Vain”.
“Die In Vain” is the follow up to last month’s release “Vanity Fair”. Vanity is a common theme for Mykal these days as he starts to explore what it’s like to be in the public image. Everyone wants to be in the limelight but it’s not always as great as it seems. Mykal still struggles with mental health issues and vices and had to let go of some friends along the way. He’s learned that the inner turmoil can still take over when everyone is watching.
The track started with a Goldsoul beat that Mykal wrote to back in 2016. The track was shelved until earlier this year when Luca Mauti came on board. Luca fine-tuned the production and adjusted the bass line and the track was ready to go. Mykal sticks to his signature rap-punk sound over minimalistic production with a hard hitting drum line. It’s a dark song with a hopeful vibe. Maybe it’s just the halo effect but Mykal makes dying in vain sound surprisingly dignified.
