It’s no secret Toronto has recently placed itself amongst North America’s most buzzworthy music cities due to the blockbuster ascents of Drake and the Weeknd. But that attention has also turned the city’s local rap scene into a hyper-competitive, prolific, and highly creative environment where young artists are fighting for attention on the world stage.
Noisey’s latest documentary feature is set in the middle of this vibrant scene, to profile some of its most exciting artists who are potentially on the cusp of international success.
Featuring Big Lean, CMDWN, Friyie, Jazz Cartier, Pressa and Prime Boys.

Toronto-based live electronic act Keys N Krates step out of the darkness with “Glitter,” a deep twilight groove featuring New Orleans R&B talent Ambré. On the first single off the trio’s debut album “Cura,” the Canadians layer intoxicating vocals over snappy bass and warped strings, for a hypnotic slowed down disco vibe.
Get to know that dude Noyz via some interview and live performance goodness. Details below:
Mississauga, ON: In the premiere episode of MonstrARTity’s latest program, the #MonsterArtist Development (MAD) series, Brampton MC Noyz takes us on a musical journey with drum guru Sarah Thawer and T.J. Whitelaw on guitar. Debuting the live version of “Cowbell” from his much anticipated album Lo-Fi Glory with Dusty Loops, Noyz shows us why CBC has named him one of the Top 10 South Asian Artists you need to hear.
The episode opens with a stripped down, live version of “God Degree” that allows the rapper’s lyrical prowess to shine through, followed by a short interview on the messages behind his music and collaborating with other artists like Sarah. The final song he performs is “Speak Now” a track which is revealed as an emotional, cathartic release about being open with the important people in your life.
“Sometimes it’s the words that we don’t say that we end up regretting the most,” says Noyz about the track.
Watch the full episode below for an exclusive look into the MC’s world. Stay tuned to MonstrARTity to see who the next #MonsterArtist will be!
