First introduction to Toya Diamond over Ricky’s Diced Pineapples beat.
Born LaToya Ottley, singer/songwriter Toya Diamond is on the rise and making noise in her hometown of Toronto, Canada. Her stunning vocals and hard work have allowed her to make major strides in a short time. She has worked with Grammy-award-winning producer Boi-1Da, producer Mega Man and R&B songstress Kim Davis. She appeared in the video for “We Gon Go” by international recording artist Kardinal Offishall and graced Universal France recording artist Junior Caldera with her mesmerizing vocals on his 2010 “Lights”.

First introduction to ‘O‘ (not to be confused with this ‘Oh’) – a dude that under his aka T.R.A.C.K.S. has been a crucial part of two highly respected groups – IRS & Big Black Lincoln (BBL) – that gave us two of the city’s most critically acclaimed albums: “Welcome to Planet IRS” & “Heaven’s Caught On Fire” respectively.
“T.R.A.C.K.S. Lament” gave us our first taste of the kid as a singer; “Clementine” – his duet with Andreena Mill – became one of many classic cuts off the BBL project; and his production/vocals on “Things Change” made it a stand out single in Mayhem Morearty’s catalouge. Last time we heard him was about a year ago when he relinked with IRS to drop vocals on “Rock For You” featuring Promise; and produce “No Regrets” featuring Frankie Payne, Kardi and Kim Davis; all off TRF’s solid “The New North” album.
“Yesterday’s Tomorrow” is a collection of cuts he put together a couple years back but is officially releasing now. So in that sense, it’s a taste of where he’s been musically and kinda serves as a precursor for what to expect moving forward from this super humble and talented Toronto artist.
In the words of the immortal Hi-Tek: “Bet you didn’t know I had flow though”.
One of the city’s premiere up and coming singers sangers, Owen “O’Sound” Lee, has a project coming out end of May where he’s not only showcasing the vocal abilities but also the MC prowess on the mic. If you’ve been following the scene you’ll know that O’s been doing his thing on the feature tip (see below) as well as on the live scene (him, Kim Davis, Toya Alexis and Omar Lunan at Revival was one of the sickest live shows I’ve been to in a minute) but he’s also been on the studio grind and is gearing up to release his debut project The Full Sound. Looking forward to it brotha!
Anyways, here’s a teaser of what to expect. Produced by Burd & Keyz.
