VIDEO: Aion “Voyce” Clarke – Waves (Mr. Probz Cover)

Another one from the basement courtesy of Voyce. There’s only a small handful of artists that can get away with posting “home videos” of this quality. Voyce and Shi Wisdom are two that come to mind who just make this thing look tooooooo easy!

NEW MUSIC: BADBADNOTGOOD x Ghostface Killah – Ray Gun feat. Doom

rez | Music | Friday, January 9th, 2015

BADBAD + Ghost = yes please.

Official album coming out in February. Big! Via BuzzFeed:

Set your phasers to “kill” — Toronto’s jazz-meets-hip-hop instrumental trio BADBADNOTGOOD has reunited Ghostface Killah and underground rap legend DOOM, together known as DOOMSTARKS, on a new track called “Ray Gun.”

The first we’ve heard from DOOMSTARKS in over three years (after one-off single “Victory Laps” in 2011), “Ray Gun” follows “Gun Showers” feat. Elzhi and “Six Degrees” feat. Danny Brown from BBNG and Ghostface’s forthcoming collaborative album Sour Soul.
Over meandering, ominous organ and a loose, propulsive rush of drums, Tony Starks and The Villainous One trade lyrical darts with their signature cinematic flair.

“Every time a DOOMSTARKS track comes out it’s a legendary moment in hip-hop, and we hope ‘Ray Gun’ is worthy,” BBNG said in a joint statement to BuzzFeed Music.

When we first heard we had a chance to get DOOM on a track for Sour Soul, we were ecstatic and also a little nervous. DOOM and Ghostface are two of our favourite rappers and creating an instrumental that blended both Ghostface’s raw powerful flow and DOOM’s poetic quirkiness proved challenging. We ended up with an arranged form that had also had an improvised feel to it, and a string and horn arrangement at the end inspired by DOOM’s love of sampling old movie soundtracks.
Pre-order Sour Soul, out Feb. 24 from Lex Records, here. The long-rumored full-length DOOMSTARKS album may also finally see the light of day this year, according to Ghostface’s Reddit AMA last month.

Taken from ‘Sour Soul’, the new album by BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah.
Released February 24th US & CA / February 23rd UK on Lex Records & Eone Music (Canada)

NEW MUSIC: Kaydee – Scattered Thoughts Pt. 1

rez | Music | Friday, January 9th, 2015

Kaydee

Now I’m up to speed. Latest joint from Kaydee fresh for the new year.

1st of all, let me wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year. I was thinking about how I could start off 2015 on a positive note and the only way I knew how to was by giving the world some music. My latest record is titled Scattered Thoughts Part. 1. I wrote this a couple weeks ago when reflecting on the wild year that was 2014. From performing for a crowd of 10 people to being able to open up for such acts as Flatbush Zombies and Raury, it has been quite the roller coaster year and I plan to keep the momentum going. The record is about the progression of 2014, improving as a man & artist amongst other things.

VIDEO: King Reign – Sincere on Exclaim TV

rez | Video | Thursday, January 8th, 2015

King Reign starts the year off with a live on the patio performance of “Sincere” via Exclaim TV. OFf the album of the same name.

King Reign performs the title track off his new album ‘Sincere’ on Exclaim! TV.

Filmed and edited by Katherine Kwan
Audio by Nash Bussieres

After a string of EPs and collaborations with the likes of Drake, Saukrates and Pharoahe Monch, Toronto rap stalwart King Reign is more than ready for his reign to begin. Recognized for his thoughtful poeticism and laid-back demeanour, these traits are clearly exhibited all across his long-awaited debut record Sincere.

The man recently stopped by the Exclaim! office to deliver an acoustic performance of the title track from his aforementioned full-length release.

Armed with only a microphone and a cajón, Reign begins by laying down a groovy beat before launching into the song’s heartfelt hook. Eyes closed and incredibly focused, he keeps time without fail while expertly navigating through his verses. Much like the title implies, the soulful, stripped-back rendition of the album cut is in no short supply of sincerity.
