Sunday Night Live::Live Music & Laughs

ft. JRDN, A-Game & Leila Dey

Hosted by Comedian Big Norm

“Juno Award Winning R&B Superstar JRDN set to play Sunday Night Live on Sunday August 31st inside Revival this Labour Day Long Weekend.”

JRDN

Emerging Canadian R&B/Hip Hop Star JRDN grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Toronto, Ontario. JRDN is one of Canada’s brightest stars and has proved to be one of the most gifted and genuinely soulful talents on Canada’s R&B/Hip Hop Scene and is drawing attention of high profile producers and artists alike.

On his first album in 2010, he talked about family, friends and his life. The breakthrough and official debut album IAMJRDN broke barriers with the direction of Toronto’s Kuya Productions who have worked with Nelly, Ginuwine and Akon. The first single “U Can Have It All” brought him to mainstream success by reaching number #20 on the Canadian Hot 100 and the music video reached number #5 on the Much Music Countdown followed by “Like Magic”, which reached number #24 on the Canadian Hot 100, its music video topping #1 on the Much Music Countdown, and being certified Gold by Music Canada. The success of these two singles landed JRDN an opportunity to perform “U Can Have It All” at the 2011 JUNO Awards and in 2012 “Like Magic” received the 2012 SOCAN Urban Music Award.

IAMJRDN also garnered him widespread critical acclaim, nominations for the CMRA Fan Choice Award, New Artist of the Year and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2012 JUNO Awards, the opportunity to tour with acclaimed artists Classified, Danny Fernandez, Alyssa Reid, Maestro and Karl Wolf and open for international stars including Ne-yo, Rihanna, Snoop Dogg and Nas.

JRDN’s new self titled EP JRDN (Kuya Productions/Fontana North) was released in early 2014. The lead single “Can’t Choose”, a seamless blend of R&B and Reggae featuring Canadian Hip Hop Icon Kardinal Offishall that finds JRDN singing candidly about just where he draws the line between love and lust has earned him the 2014 JUNO Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Other notable tracks off the self-titled EP include “Love Aint Enough” and “Live My Dream”.

A-GAME, Hip Hop Duo from Toronto, Ontario made up of identical twins, who go by the stage name “Nova and Chase”. A-Game’s signature sound is filled with vibrance and paired with thought provoking narrative that connects to the voice of the common man. This is contrasted with undertones of aspirations and achievement that echoes their vision and destination. The duo mix their styles and tempos to instigate a novel breed of sound.

A-Game has plenty of hits like singles “Go Head Shawty” and “Airplanes” which were both produced by T-Minus. Their singles “Watchu Sayin'” and “Oh My” reached number #1 on Flow 93.5’s Mega City Countdown. They have worked with various producers The project has one feature from Rich Kidd (“It’s Nothing”) and various producers including WondaGurl, Matthew Burnett, Superville, Chef, Bass Line and many more. More notable tracks from the Duo include ” Cool Boyz” ft. Maino, “Real S**t”, “Money Made Me Do It” ft. Luu Breeze and newest releases “Boarding Pass”, “It’s Nothing ft. Rich Kidd and “Sidelines”.

LEILA DEY, Singer/Songwriter from Toronto, Ontario has been hard at work since teaming up with Sandbox Studios to develop and produce her upcoming projects with the single “Place for You” garnering very positive reactions. Over the last couple of years her textured vocals have lent themselves to collaborate with artists like Joel Ortiz, Vybz Kartel, Luu Breeze, and Rayzak to name a few. Not to mention performing with K’naan at Illuminato Festival, being a part of Manifesto’s first all female cypher to recently opening for Melanie Fiona, Divine Brown & Teedra Moses.

One of a series of short pieces on the Unity Charity that I produced for my 9-5 at MTV Canada.

To celebrate the annual Unity Festival in support of young artists, MTV has teamed up with the charity to bring you the stories of four individuals that have found a way to express themselves through their art.

First we introduced you to Jane, an 18 year old B-Girl/Musician who found peace in art while dealing with emotional family struggles. Now we’d like you to meet Jessey, officially Jessey ‘Phade’ Pacho, a graffiti artist who recognizes the importance of community building through graffiti art.

Hear Jessey’s story below and check back for more Unity profiles in the week’s to come and don’t miss the 2014 Unity Festival happening in Toronto July 23-26!
