At 19, Raz Fresco, the Toronto rapper/producer, wasn’t even born when Pete Rock and CL Smooth dropped their seminal album, Mecca and the Soul Brother, in 1992. But he knows his lineage, not to mention the significance of working with someone like Pete Rock.
Check out Raz performing a smooth, sax-fuelled performance of his throwback track, “And it Don’t Stop.” Stay tuned for more from CBC Music’s Rock the Mic series, and don’t forget to check out part one, as well as more music from Rich Kidd and Raz Fresco.

I know I know…I’m a “diva director”, lol. Shouts to Rinku!
Here’s the full version of “As Deep As Your Love”. The actual content of the video is the same but this version has the ill quote at the start, the sexy titles at the beginning (shouts to Heinz!) and full credits at the end that not only give credit and thank yous where credit and thank yous are due but also features a taste of one of the illest songs from Naked, “The Ones”. These differences from the original post of the video may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things but this is how the video was supposed to be presented so I’m happy to be able to share that with you now. Enjoy!
It was a real challenge putting this video together so my heartfelt gratitude goes out to the entire crew. Shouts to Andreena and the whole team! Copp Naked now!

Special thanks to T.O. Studio and London Tattoo Parlour! And of course, to everyone that played a part in the creation of this music video. Much Love!

Never met Nayani before but it’s all love headed her way for her documentary about Shadeism. I don’t know the full story but based on my Google PhD I’ve learned that they made a short documentary like 3 years ago which you can watch here and after a successful IndieGoGo campaign are gearing up to produce a full-length version. I see a HotDocs premiere in the near future, lol.
All jokes aside, I can see the journey this team is on and have the utmost respect for what they’re doing so please support however you can. This Canada AM interview is brand new which goes to show that 3 years in, the momentum for the project is still in full force. I wish them the best with the full-length project!
Filmmaker Nayani Thiyagarajah sounds off on the phenomenon of skin-lightening and why she challenged her family’s desire for pale skin.

The youngin’ (17!) Maurice drops debut visuals via “Lift Off” from his debut EP Paramount. Here’s the official blurb:
“Lift Off” is a lyrical masterpiece, bringing the listener through a visual, metaphorical journey of how lonely one’s ascension to success can be without the love of their life fully supportive by their side. Top model Lauren Orosz, depicted sparingly and very distant in the video, is often in Maurice’s shadow while he’s at the forefront singing, “…’cause it burns like Mars when your love’s this far, the universe don’t see us together.”
Visually, “Lift Off” switches back and forth between a clean, all-white backdrop to a smokey, dark ambience providing the perfect disposition to the lyrical picture Maurice paints. All in all, the high-school senior is buckling up for a busy summer and “Lift Off” is the perfect debut single for what will be a long successful career in the industry.
Production: RetroFuture Production Team (Maurice, Auracle, Goldstripes) and Arthur McArthur (Drake, “Uptown”; Pusha T, “Trust You”; Kelly Rowland, “This Is Love”).
Directed By: Creations Of LA (Bridget Kelly; Fefe Dobson; Kat Dahlia)
Captured By: Visual Khemistry
