Yes, you just read that artist name right, lol. New music from a new live hip-hop band based out of the city. Here’s all the info:

We are a live hip hop band hailing from Toronto, Canada. We have just completed a 6 song self-titled EP, “Grandfather Mantis & The Shadow Monks Vol. 1”.

Grandfather Mantis has worked with Toronto artists such as Muneshine (Twin Peaks), St. Peter (NAU) and Dj Grouch (Turnstylez). Big Mantis packs the lyrics with information and references, while maintaining that classic flow. His influences includes Pharaohe Monch, Mf Doom, Elzhi, Method Man, and the late GURU; in terms of coming with a rich gravelly tone and undeniable content in the rhymes. Grandfather Mantis can found on Twitter @FatherMantis.

Grandfather Mantis & The Shadow Monks have been playing shows at venues such as Lee’s Palace, The Silver Dollar, The Central, El Mocambo and many other over the last 2 years, building our reputation as a live act that satisfies. We are having the cd release party for our debut album Saturday May 26th at the Silver Dollar. A copy of the album will be included with admission.

The video is in the style of Citizen Kane meets a 1960’s Yakuza gangster flic, directed by Carlo Schefter (Pulp Music Productions).
