Zahra - Invisible Image

1st solo exhibit for photographer Zahra Siddiqui.

Curated by elle Alconcel and Negarra Kudumu, “The Invisible Majority” is the first solo exhibition by image maker Zahra Siddiqui. Known for her vivid portraits, she has explored her creative output and will showcase a new series of mixed media works. This concept of using photography, and interwoven with canvas, textiles, adornments and paint, is a celebration of her diverse roots and heritage. The series is a compliment to the journey of her travels, and unravels with the multiple layers on each canvas. Zahra Siddiqui explores her own relationship to creating and her lived experiences, and showcases that with the persons dignified in each piece.

The exhibitions are open to the public daily (Mon–Fri 8 am – 9pm, Sat–Sun 10am – 6pm) from September 8 – October 31, 2016.

NEW VIDEO: UNITY Charity x MTV present: “My Purpose, My Art”: Meet Jessey`Phade’ Pacho

Ty Harper | Artwork,Community,Events,Music,Video | Friday, July 18th, 2014

One of a series of short pieces on the Unity Charity that I produced for my 9-5 at MTV Canada.

To celebrate the annual Unity Festival in support of young artists, MTV has teamed up with the charity to bring you the stories of four individuals that have found a way to express themselves through their art.

First we introduced you to Jane, an 18 year old B-Girl/Musician who found peace in art while dealing with emotional family struggles. Now we’d like you to meet Jessey, officially Jessey ‘Phade’ Pacho, a graffiti artist who recognizes the importance of community building through graffiti art.

Hear Jessey’s story below and check back for more Unity profiles in the week’s to come and don’t miss the 2014 Unity Festival happening in Toronto July 23-26!

Call For Visual Arts Submissions

With changing times on the horizon so much has happened within all of us on either a individual level or as a collective whole. Whether we’ve faced personal transformations through our daily lives, or we’ve used our art as a form of expression or messaging, we’ve witness some sort of shift. Some of us may have identified with others to create collaborative change or put our efforts in areas we saw fit so we could redefine our truths and beliefs. Whatever that shift has been, we are now becoming more aware of this energy.

This year for the 7th Annual Manifesto Art Show we will explore the notions of connectedness and evolution as we present thought-provoking works from local artists as well as game-changers from across the globe.

“Everything in our world is sacred and interconnected – and we’re in the midst of an epochal shift to recognizing that truth in every realm of human endeavor.” – Stephen Dinan.

ARTWORK: Rich Kidd x SonReal – The Closers (LP) + Tracklist

rez | Artwork | Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

Yep yep. Due out October 16th. Here’s more via Exclaim:

Back in June, Toronto rapper Rich Kidd announced that he would be collaborating with Vancouver hip-hop cohort SonReal on an EP. Now, that project has grown into a full-length album.

Entitled The Closers, this 10-song LP will arrive on October 16 via Black Box Music. The tracks were cut in L.A. and Toronto. Rich Kidd served as sole producer on half of the songs, with other production credits going to Wonda Gurl, Arthur McArthur, Beat Merchant and Chin Injeti.

See the album’s art above and the tracklist below.

Scroll past that to check out a pair of videos documenting the recording process. Along with some behind-the-scenes footage, you’ll hear clips of some of the rappers’ new material.

In more good news, those Rich Kidd and SonReal solo albums that they previously promised are still slated for release in early 2013 through Black Box.

2. Real Life (prod. Rich Kidd)
3. Best Believe (prod. Rich Kidd)

rez | Artwork | Sunday, June 10th, 2012

After carrying the city on her back (no pun intended) for the past little while with her Intimate & Interactive and The Known [UN]Known live showcases, Tika Simone is set to release her sophomore single, “My Dream”. The track is produced by Larry Gates Jr. and is, how do you say it…? A big chune.

Be among the first to check it out on Tuesday, June 12th via her fan page!
