The Beat Academy presents “The Road to SXSW” a mini-doc about a team of young producers, including Wondagurl, Rich Kidd, Chef Byer and more in their journey to compete in the first-ever international team beat battle at SXSW 2014. 

On March 13, 2014, 16 producers battled it out in 5 incredible rounds for the title in the Champion Sound Beat Battle at SXSW. The event, organized by The Beat Academy and co-produced with the support of Texas’ own SCBB (Houston), included some of the most talented up-and-coming producers in hip hop.

Host Jemelle Williams sits down with two of Toronto’s most influential artists, Canadian Hip Hop Pioneer Michie Mee and Innovator of Sound Shi Wisdom. The artists shared their insights on the truth behind “Making It,” the challenges behind being a female Creative, and the importance behind being different.
