About Everlasting Waves

The Almighty Shing Shing Regime remain among the forefront in the Canadian independent hip-hop movement, releasing their formal debut mix-tape “I AM SHING”(March 2011) and album the “Invincible Swordplay EP” (April 2011) the “Shing” has garnered plenty of attention and a large dedicated international following. They have also opened for well-known acts such as Nas, Ice Cube, Lupe Fiasco, KRS-One, Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & DJ Hi-Tek), The GZA & Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang Clan). Further, they have received acknowledgement from some of Hip-Hop’s greatest such as, Raekwon (Wu-Tang Clan), Chuck D (Public Enemy), KRS-One, 9th Wonder (Jamla Records/Army), Planet Asia (Gold Chain Military), Stic.Man (dead prez) and Lord Jamar (Brand Nubian).

With a style that does not preach but reaches the masses the Shing describe their art as “socially conscious commentary” via music. The Shing Shing Regime are well aware of the power they wield via the microphone and in their brief time on the scene, have made it apparent that they have the ability to craft songs that are both content-filled, experience laced and at the same time listener friendly.

Everlasting Waves (Los Ondas Eterna) is a collaborative project with Durham, Ontario producer Double Profit and was inspired by The Regime’s travels and exploits over the course of the past year. Everlasting Waves merges the intensely cinematic with the calculated cool of classic days gone by. “We wanted to make a record like a ride on the shores between reality and the symbolic, something that makes you feel comfortable but also inspires you to see beyond the horizon,” says Symmetry. Unlike their previous efforts, the Shing stuck to just one producer to prove the sonic direction on Everlasting Waves, resulting in a unique and soulful sound. “It was fun because we got to work with our own concepts in a very concentrated, private fashion. Double Profit knew the type of soundscape we were striving to paint and we went about it almost like an underwater science experience that nobody knew about. When I think of a Wave, that’s exactly how it comes…seemingly out of nowhere or from some place deep. Shoutout to the brother Double Profit for the beats, he gave us his best and we put together a masterpiece,” explains Symm. “It’s some oceanic, coast-to-coast, God-Hop shit we’re splashing.”
