Adversity can shut you down. Or, as in the case of Toronto hip-hop artist Spek Won, it can spur you on. He’s not afraid to look at difficult issues – he tackled police brutality in his recent video “Black Body.” It’s an elegy to the tragedy of past years, while it points to resistance and healing.
And Spek Won has looked challenge straight in the eye his whole life. In this clip from Exhibitionists, he opens up about the suffering he witnessed plague his father’s adulthood, and the driving force that suffering has become in Spek’s own life.
