BlakeFailure

Congrats to this dude man. Where do I start?

Blake’s BEEN grindin’. I’ve always rated him as one of the purest artists in the city. Not many love and breath this sh*t like he does. And that passion for the art and the culture is clear with F.A.I.L.U.R.E. – which is not only an album but also a short film as well as an ArtBook with photographer-extraordinaire SoTeeOh. Three mediums all released under the F.A.I.L.U.R.E. umbrella. Definitely ambitious for any artist let alone an indie one but for some reason I expect nothing less from Blake. Shouts to him and the whole team!

Album features JellyTooFly, Kardinal Offishall, Tamara Madison, Raz Fresco, Devontee and more as well as production from Rich Kidd, Junia-T, Lord Quest and more. Take it in below and copp that if you want to support via his website.

Lessons from personal failure at the helm of three –part hip-hop music project by homegrown artist, Blake Carrington who, tells his story of retribution, young fatherhood and personal ascension through a combination of music, art and film.

“FAILURE has been an integral part of my life and becoming the person I am today,” said Carrington. “I can only hope that my journey inspires the listeners of this album to love themselves and understand that success and excellence first comes from within.”

The three part project includes an album of 18 carefully mastered tracks featuring a Toronto collaboration featuring artists like Kardinal Offishall, Jelly2Fly, and production from Rich Kidd and Juina T. The album is also accompanied by an art book, co-produced by one of Toronto’s leading photographers, SoTeeOh. The book is compiled of compelling photography creatively depicting Blake Carrington and his evolution as an artist, highlighting some of the inspiration that kept him going.

The final component of FAILURE is a short film, written and directed by Brendon Samuel and Omari Burke from 88 Films. The short features Blake Carrington and Tarek Ibrahim (aka Wav) who play brothers forced to make life changing decisions in order to find a better life. The story is based on actual events.

This unique approach to storytelling and music joins the changing tides in how artists identify and represent themselves, diving deeper into the choice of mediums they choose to explore.

“The F.A.I.L.U.R.E experience” (Album, Short Film, Art Book) launch took place at The ArtScape Sandbox, downtown Toronto on April 16. (4.16.)
