NEW MUSIC: McCallaman – Boy You Better Sing EP
New EP / vibes from producer and now sanger, McCallaman. Lovely.
Toronto artist, producer & DJ Matthew McCalla (known as McCallaman) is back with another project straight from the soul. Fresh off of the release of his beloved Black Pop EP – “Boy You Better Sing” is McCalla’s debut solo start as a singer & writer, being the only voice you hear on each self-produced track. Boy You Better Sing is an urgent call to speak up & use your God-given talents while you still have breath. Following the same train of thought as the Black Pop EP, it is a conscious project with music & a message that promotes life.
The inspiration for this project came after he was involved in a severe car collision last year. McCalla also witnessed his cousin pass away in 2010 (the late D-Keyz of producer group Burd & Keyz) and a few months before his cousin passed, he heard him sing for the first time. It caught him off guard because his cousin had a beautiful voice and would pass without anyone ever really knowing that. A combination of these life changing events & encouragement from family and friends prompted a new sense of urgency to explore as much as possible, artistically.
McCallaman has enjoyed recent success with Black Pop reaching over 45,000 total plays on Soundcloud. His music has been featured on Soulection radio via Beats1 (Apple music). He is poised for more success with his latest video for the single “Tenfold” featuring Tika Simone premiering on AfroPunk, in addition to packing venues w/ his live sets in Toronto and opening for Goldlink’s national tour.
While McCallaman has made waves as a producer, most recently for Goldlink’s debut album ‘And After That We Didn’t Talk’, with this project he has stepped into his own and has more to give than just his beats. Like everyone else, he has a story, purpose, & message. Boy You Better Sing is an exhortation, encouraging people to face their fears and become as beautiful & fully realized as they are meant to be.
