rez | Video | Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Promo clip for David Versis‘ latest project P.S.A.L.M.S. which is due out this spring.

Toronto rapper David Versis has just dropped the promotional video in anticipation for his imminent mixtape, to be entitled Poetic Symphonies And Like Minded Souls (P.S.A.L.M.S.). The project features production only from Toronto mogul Arthur McArthur, as well as Versis himself. The visual very much sets the tone for what is to be expected from the tape.

Special thanks to Maverick Creative.

NEW VIDEO: Grandfather Mantis & The Shadow Monks – Release

rez | Video | Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Yes, you just read that artist name right, lol. New music from a new live hip-hop band based out of the city. Here’s all the info:

We are a live hip hop band hailing from Toronto, Canada. We have just completed a 6 song self-titled EP, “Grandfather Mantis & The Shadow Monks Vol. 1”.

Grandfather Mantis has worked with Toronto artists such as Muneshine (Twin Peaks), St. Peter (NAU) and Dj Grouch (Turnstylez). Big Mantis packs the lyrics with information and references, while maintaining that classic flow. His influences includes Pharaohe Monch, Mf Doom, Elzhi, Method Man, and the late GURU; in terms of coming with a rich gravelly tone and undeniable content in the rhymes. Grandfather Mantis can found on Twitter @FatherMantis.

Grandfather Mantis & The Shadow Monks have been playing shows at venues such as Lee’s Palace, The Silver Dollar, The Central, El Mocambo and many other over the last 2 years, building our reputation as a live act that satisfies. We are having the cd release party for our debut album Saturday May 26th at the Silver Dollar. A copy of the album will be included with admission.

The video is in the style of Citizen Kane meets a 1960’s Yakuza gangster flic, directed by Carlo Schefter (Pulp Music Productions).

rez | Music | Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

Theo and Tony connect one mo gin for The 2 Week EP (Second Edition). If you didn’t know…Theo is not only one of the nicest on the mic but he also plays a huge role in the community. This 2 Week project is to raise money for another great youth program that he is heading. See below for more info and please make that purchase to help the cause!!!

The 2 WEEK EP is a series of records written, produced, recorded and mixed in 2 WEEKS to raise funds for positive community initiatives. Support That! Peace!

This year we want to step it up a bit. So we’ve decided to fund a FREE 8 week program for Toronto youth (18-29) run by 2B2DS alumnus who have aspirations of starting their own community based initiatives. Our goal is to raise $1000 (which will pay for instructor fees, materials and location). Let’s make a difference. Right here. Right now. Word to Hagar. One Love.

NEW MUSIC: Saukrates – Doorite feat. Nickelus F & k-os

rez | Music | Saturday, April 21st, 2012

Likkle taste of what to expect from SaukratesSeason One album which drops this Tuesday. Well, you can just stream the whole album below too if you want. This is kind of a clean edit of “Doorite” feat. Nickelus F and k-os, lol.

This coming Tuesday, April 24th, Saukrates will release his long-awaited new album, Season One. The project is being released via Saukrates’ label, Frostbyte Media, and in order to hold fans over for the next few days until release, Saukrates is unleashing the album’s latest single, “Doorite,” featuring fellow Canadian emcees Nickelus F and k-os.

The track, produced by School Of Velocity for Humbled Music Productions, is built around booming drums and bouncy keys, and Saukrates takes advantage of the triumphant instrumental to express the story and patience of an artist that had it all and lost everything, but refused to stay down. “You couldn’t imagine all the day that I flipped from hero to zero,” raps Soxx. “Flip shit backwards; zero to hero.”
