If you didn’t already know, Toronto has a CRAZY history when it comes to Funk. George Clinton LIVED here when he basically discovered it and luminaries like Rick James called Toronto home. Anyways…the Funk lives on through 9-member collective The Soul Motivators. Here’s their debut EP.
Here to restore Toronto’s faith in funk – it’s The Soul Motivators.
Together for just over two years, these eight funk brothers – and one soul sister -have crafted a slick, hi-energy show guaranteed to get you on the dance floor. Moving crowds at festivals, theatres and clubs across Ontario and Quebec, they received airplay on national and college radio.
After unprecedented hype, their debut EP dropped in March 2013.
To kick-off another summer of rare grooves, 70s funk and authentic soul, the band host this special event not to be missed… Expect a hot n’ gritty night of familiar favourites, rarities and new exclusives – alongside some very special guests:
Opening the night is Babalao Stereo Club. Their fusion of heart-thumping beats and Latin-infused rhythms make them a stand-out band on the Toronto scene. With their 2011 album, ‘The Latin Bang Theory’, these guys proved they can get a party started!
And spinning throughout the evening is legendary Toronto DJ, Paul E. Lopes. His eclectic blend of nu-jazz, soul, funk, house and reggae will provide the perfect backdrop to this hi-octane event.

spring is upon us and ive started mixing the album which is scary but feels great to be so close to finished.
i thought i would share this rough mix of a new song (that wont be on the album) with you called “peace”. it’s part of a group of new tracks i’ve been working on since april, and it sort of explains a bit of where my thinking arrived after working through so much in the process of recording the full-length.
some thoughts on the challenge of living peacefully in a violent world, of having hope and having fun in a world where it’s easy to despair, and accepting our own successes and failures and making some kind of peace with ourselves.
most of my one-off joints lately have been on the freestyle/battle tip so here’s a deep one for ya! shouts to skratch bastid for working on this one with me.
looking fwd to rocking with buck 65 in montreal this month as well as the sasquatch music festival… also looking fwd to dropping more new material before may is out!
