UforChange is an arts and civic engagement project for newcomer, at-risk and low-income youth living in and around St. James Town. This July we will be celebrating the graduation of our Cycle 6 participants with our arts showcase, Vivacity. Vivacity celebrates the graduation of our participants from the most recent cycle with a two day art showcase. Vivacity allows our supporters and the public to come take part in the celebration and view the work of the participants over the past six months. Vivacity is a time for the youth of UforChange to network, share the skills they have learned and art they have created with the City of Toronto.

Free Your Sound: 2vs2 Beatboxing Battle in Partnership with BeatboxCan. To enter the 2vs2 battle, you will need to submit a video. Details to be posted shortly.
Day 2 Friday July 19: The Phoenix Concert Theatre, 410 Sherbourne Street
Free Your Style: Breakdancing and All Styles in Partnership with IBE. Want to qualify? Then attend this year’s pre-qualifiers at the AGO on Friday July 5th at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Details will be posted shortly.
Day 3 Saturday July 20: Yonge-Dundas Square
UNITY Concert at Yonge-Dundas Square. A full day of performances from youth, artists, headliners, breakdancing battles, live graffiti, and much more! Auditions are completed! Thank you for everyone that auditioned this year! Announcements of the youth performers will be made shortly.
Day 4 Sunday July 21: Daniels Spectrum Theatre 585 Dundas Street East.
Free Your Voice: Lyricist Battle and Showcase. If you are an MC or a spoken word artists between the ages of 13-19, audition to be part of Unity’s “Free YourVoice — All-Styles Lyricists” event taking place on July 21st, 2013. This is your chance to be a part of Toronto’s largest urban arts youth festival and share your voice and your words with the Toronto MC/Spoken word/Hip Hop community. Auditions taking place: Sunday June 2nd from 10AM-3PM at Don Montgomery Community Centre, 2467 Eglinton Avenue East. Please email: uniffectcoordinator@unitycharity.com to reserve an audition slot.

Food pavilions where you can eat Poutine and Shish Taouk in one-sitting, washed down with an ice cream waffle sandwich or mini sugar donuts ala Tiny Toms. Ride the rickety ass wooden roller-coaster: ‘The Flyer,’ the lightning fast car: ‘The Polar Bear Express,’ the spinning cages they call ‘The Zipper’ and swinging gondola’s on a massive Ferris Wheel lit by the park. All run by old Dudes who have built and rebuilt these steel-traps for 101 years. The same ones who hire young locals to take money from the kids who want to get high and ride. Ben & Bronze have been going to The Ex for years with their families & friends, Notes to Self even performed Yellow & Grey and Worst Comes to Worst on-stage at the CNE with their Big Brothers, Dilated Peoples in 2009 — so its location always had “potential music video” written all over it, especially for Notes as their love of all things nostalgic is nothing less than whole-hearted. Nothing screams classic fair grounds quite like The Canadian National Exhibition.
Ever since Notes to Self’s video for “Nobody” dropped, creative types have been reaching out to the Toronto outfit to collaborate — none more talented than their Homie, Brother, Animator & Co-Director, Russ Murphy aka RUFFMERCY from Britain. In his own right, RUFFMERCY has time and time again brought life to some of your favourite, soon-to-be-classic rap videos. Notes bonded with Russ for the last year and half over their painstaking attention to detail(s) – a trait Russ shares in his animations. Co-Directors Bronze and Ben thought it would be a good idea to involve Russ in this spectacle of carnie games and stuffed animals — a place perfect to express the popular culture the 3 had grown up on in their formative years developing their visual eyes, that they had clearly bonded over — a place to express the groups childhood memories of Kelly Kapowski, Street Fighter and Lou Diamond Phillips; a time when Jimmy Key was King of the Mound.
What you see in this video is an evening of sheer fun. Watch Dopey whistle down some single ladies walking the fairway, Roshin shoot targets with ease, Bronze whack-a-mole and Swamp win a stuffed animal shooting hoops. To celebrate Canada Day, Maestro Fresh Wes delivers his address to the nation with a new video for Black Trudeau, a track that as the Toronto Star says “speaks the truth: he was Canada’s first domestic rap music breakthrough.” Last year hip hop fans in Toronto were given a taste of the track when Wes was invited on stage by hip hop legends Public Enemy. The crowd went wild and Chuck D fell to the floor in awe as Maestro delivered rhymes about Drake, former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.
