Episode 3 of Gavin Sheppard’s “Welcome To Rawluck” web series…. more episodes @ http://www.welcometorawluck.com.

Creative Gavin Sheppard (The Remix ProjectTED/Yale World Fellow) releases his first web series, Welcome to Rawluck.
A multi-media series, Welcome to Rawluck breaks mediums and rules as it explores a dystopian Toronto circa 2022. Releasing 4 episodes on Tuesday, September 10th, 2013 – the series picks up again with a new episode the 15th of every month beginning October 15th.
Episode 1 – Welcome to Rawluck sets the tone and gives context to the stories we explore next. A series of 9 still photographs by photographer Buruk Early (Dope-Society), each photograph is accompanied by text setting the stage for the world we are about to dive into.
Episode 2  – Chin – picks up as a slice of life video piece. Through Chin we see the story of so many of our young men balancing morality vs. environment and motivation. Directed by Brian Gregory (Creaction Media).
Episode 3 – James – A stop-motion photography piece. We start to get to know the life of James, Chin’s kick around partner. As James struggles with identity and fitting in, he gets himself into a situation way over his head. Shot/Directed by Kadeem Ellis (kadeemellis.com).
Episode 4 – Y’all Ready – An illustrated, graphic novel style chapter to the story picking up directly where Episode 3 left off. An adrenaline fueled robbery gone horribly right with various implications for the future.. Illustrated by the illustrious Pavel Ioudine (Monyak).
Featuring a cast of Toronto talent, Welcome to Rawluck is an entertaining new series talking real shit in a narrative fashion. The goal is to entertain. Past that, it is to inspire conversation around a host of issues facing communities around the world as urbanization continues at a rampant rate…
Welcome to the struggle.
Let’s build.

Toronto Community Housing in partnership with the Department of Athletics and Recreation at University of Toronto Scarborough has introduced a first-of-its-kind program for city youth this summer: Midnight Madness Basketball.

The pilot program brings together 70 youth aged 14 to 16 from five Toronto Community Housing communities to play basketball at the UTS athletic centre on Friday nights during the summer.

Led by Shevon Thompson and Jelani Matthew, Midnight Madness combines both physical and personal development. Before stepping on the court for basketball drills and friendly competition under the guidance of mentors, the youth take part in life-skills workshops to learn about themselves, their peers and how to access positive life-changing opportunities.

Midnight Madness is supported by the Toronto Police Service, Ascot Co-op, Concrete Roses Youth Services and the East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club.

The pilot program includes five communities this summer (Alexandra Park, Cooper Mills, Flemington Park, Kingston Galloway, Queen’s Plate), but Toronto Community Housing hopes to expand it in future to include more communities and involve both boys and girls.

To find out more, call 416-981-6300, or e-mail youth@torontohousing.ca.

Please change settings to 720p for best best viewing.
