More crazy throwback footage from MuchMusic, circa 1991, featuring a 14-year-old Dan-e-o. And in classic T.O. fashion, the crowd gets hype when Lindo touches the mic, ha! Got Rocks on the intro tho….???? Too classic. Shouts to all these MCs man.
This video captures a live performance on CityTV’s “Electric Circus” on August 17, 1991 by Dan-e-o, Fresh B, Lindo P, B-Kool (a.k.a. Carlito Brigante), S Blank, Kid NRG, Gifted & Black and RP Rap.
The group of MC’s was scheduled to perform at an event called “Fresh Fest” later that month in Mississauga, Ontario and visited the popular dance show to promote it. The crew was introduced by Jel (a.k.a. Chris “GotRocks” Jackson), Dan-e-o’s now-manager.
This marked 14 year-old Dan-e-o’s second appearance on “Electric Circus” that year. The first being his Rap-Off Contest victory performance of “Can’t Test Me” as part of the duo, Partners In Rhyme (with Lindo P) in May.

It all goes down this Friday: Rich. Tona. Bomb. A be vision. Geez.
I’m out of town, so gna miss this, but hopefully you don’t.
Toronto’s finest rhyme spitters
Rich Kidd,
Tona, and
Adam Bomb have teamed up with
Bryan Espiritu of Toronto based clothing line
TheLegendsLeague to form
Naturally Born Strangers, the audio component to the TheLegendsLeague’s F/W 13 collection avaialble at Livestock in Toronto (116 Spadina Ave.), at retailers across Canada, and online at
www.thelegendsleague.com.
On Friday January 31st, they will be taking over Toronto’s Mod Club (722 College St.) for a special concert and pop-up shop showcasing the highly-popular new product line. In addition to the fall line, LL is designing a special capsule exclusively available at the show. The event will be sponsored by NOW Toronto, Noisey, Hip Hop Canada, and Manifesto.
The full project, entirely produced by
Rich Kidd who is closing out a landmark year in his buzzing career, is avaible in full
via Audio Mack and has already received wide coverage by the likes of Complex Magazine, Mass Appeal, Onsmash and plenty others.
With Espiritu at the creative helm, the clearly-defined visual aestethic of this project is explained below:
Naturally Born Strangers represents those born and raised different who don’t associate themselves with the common communal circles. It’s a proclamation of pride in the power of being disliked, unwanted or obscure, weird or foreign to the norm. It’s for the stranger and the more strange, the new community of outcasts, the antithesis to the neighbourhood and the cynics of its circles. NBS is the umbrella title to those influenced by much, deterred by nothing and unknown the world over.
It’s a reflection of our societies vision of “normal”. The queen is represented to create familiarity but has been tainted to identify the strange. It’s fuck government, fuck the system, fuck money, fuck fame, fuck art.”
– Bryan Espiritu & James McGurk of TheLegendsLeague.

Been LOVIN’ Sean Leon and the IXXI’s little virals lately…. definitely blurring the lines between music video, new music tease and a straight pop-culture rant… some progressive promo-campaign-type sh*t imho…
Artists take notes goddamitt, lol….

Bonus cut off one of the best albums out of the Mega for 2013 (along with the FW joint which interestingly also features Tona and Bomb).
The entire NBS team hits the MOD Club stage this Friday and there’s no question in my mind it will be a memorable one for the Toronto hip-hop history books.

Honestly their varsity’s are the definition of Need VS Want to me right now, lol….. definitely a piece of local history I’d love to own soon.
Also check a profile I produced on Mr. Brown for MTV News (actually the first thing I’ve ever done for television/video) which aired yesterday (Saturday @ 6pm) but you can also catch this morning @ 6am and later @ 8:30pm.

Another solid free release from the homie SonReal. Debut commercial release coming this year too. Dude’s output maybe rivals D-Sisive, lol. Hard to keep up Sonny!!! Knowing him, there’ll probably be like 10 videos off this project too.
#OneLongDay is SonReal’s first solo release since the Juno Nominated album, The Closers. After the success of his single “Everywhere We Go”, SonReal announced that he would be giving his next project out for free as well as dropping his debut commercial album later in 2014.
Till then, we have this: One Long Day, an incredibly concise piece of work. With production from; Arthur Mcarthur, Rich Kidd, Chin Injeti, Chef Byer, Alex Lustig, Superville, 2oolman, and Burd & Keyz.
SonReal effortlesly shares his story over A grade beats. A few special features from Kardinall Offishall, Shad, Andreena Mill and Willa help set this project aside from your average free mixtape.. It should actually be called an album, because its fucking great.

Super mellow joint from Queen Shi for your Friday AM.
This is a poem I wrote many years ago on a beat I received many years ago from Toronto’s own, EnJ. It will put you to sleep, I guarantee it.
