Papa Won with some actual real talk. Take this one in.

Adversity can shut you down. Or, as in the case of Toronto hip-hop artist Spek Won, it can spur you on. He’s not afraid to look at difficult issues – he tackled police brutality in his recent video “Black Body.” It’s an elegy to the tragedy of past years, while it points to resistance and healing.

And Spek Won has looked challenge straight in the eye his whole life. In this clip from Exhibitionists, he opens up about the suffering he witnessed plague his father’s adulthood, and the driving force that suffering has become in Spek’s own life.

The passing of Son of Soul has made it a tough couple of months for many of us in the city. None more so than this guy, so good to see him putting out some new sounds.

As promised…Leila Dey drops some highly anticipated new chunes in the form of her I’ve Arrived EP. There’s really only 3 new songs – “Do You” feat. Redway (RIP), “I Know” and “Karma”. Really glad to hear the newness after a long 3 year wait! Hopefully this is the start of a real push for Leila and the team.

To accompany her debut EP release as Leila Dey (fka PG) – see above – Leila also lets loose some goodies from the vaults in the form of the Outta My System EP. So basically…a handful of older joints that were previously unreleased (other thank “Place Like This” of course). Must feel good to just let those babies go!
