Nice little feature on the one and only Zaki Ibrahim courtesy of U.S.-based African TV channel The Africa Channel and Toronto-based director David F. Mewa. The description claims her as Cape Town’s but we all know Zaki was ours first. Sorry Cape Town.
Cape Town’s Zaki Ibrahim explains what being a nomadic musician living in Canada is all about. The South African singer/songwriter prepares traditional Cape Malay Koeksistas while explaining how the sights and sounds of ‘The Continent’ inspire her new world music.

I produced and wrote “Greetings of Peace” for “The Strombo Show” with George Stroumboulopoulos on CBC Radio 2 . Check out his full Holiday special here:music.cbc.ca/#!/blogs/2015/12/A…-Strombo-Christmas

Been following B Magic for a few years now (solo + his time with Zoo Babies) and I can say that I’m not really a fan. Even though he was the weakest link in the group (imho) I do think Zoo Babies had potential to do something cool though so it’s a shame that they’ve broken up (to my knowledge). I’m definitely a fan of Noyz though (also a member of Zoo Babies) so am always down to check what he’s up to (3rd verse here). Hook and beat is dope on this one too.
This concert tape just surfaced mysteriously and it’s awesome.
This recently surfaced concert tape seems to be an alternate assembly of Notes to Self, playing a live gig in LA with some special guests. When the group came up on the bootleg recording, they decided to press a limited run of 150 cassettes themselves. Here is a stream of the audio rip and the tape’s amazing fan art, which captures one of the live set’s recurring motifs—the universally traumatic experience of your blue jeans staining your white Air Force 1s.
