EVENT: Honey Jam 20th Anniversary (Thursday, August 13th @ The MOD Club)

rez | Events | Monday, August 10th, 2015

HJ2015-concert-flyer

Wow man. 20 years. Huge CONGRATS and LOVE goes out to Ebonnie Rowe and everyone that has dedicated their time and talent over the years to help promote and showcase our local talent at what is now an institution in the city. Events, conferences, showcases, radio shows, summits, etc…etc…etc…A lot of them have come and gone. Not trying to take away from all the greatness we’ve had in the city over the years but for Honey Jam to be going 20 years strong is really something to celebrate and be proud of. It’s a testament to Ebonnie’s drive and perseverance as well as the constant stream of talent coming out of the city / country. Hope to see you there on Thursday night to show Honey Jam some much deserved love.

(TORONTO) The Honey Jam Canada Concert returns on Thursday August 13, 2015 at 8:00 pm at the Mod Club (722 College St). Show host former MuchMusic VJ Sarah Taylor returns and it promises to be a great night of live music!

Founded 20 years ago, the concert is a national showcase and incubator for female singers. Nelly Furtado, who performed at the 1997 concert, now supports the event as one of its sponsors. When contacted recently about Honey Jam reaching their 20 year milestone, Furtado commented:

“The Honey Jam was a pivotal moment in my personal musical journey. As an 18-year-old girl from Victoria, BC trying to make my dreams come true in bustling Toronto, the talent showcase was a beacon of hope and opportunity. Not only did I make pivotal connections for my entry into the music business, I also learned grit, as the competition was fierce.

The Honey Jam should be recognized as part of Toronto’s musical legacy. The best music created in this city has always started on the street. The Honey Jam pioneered roads for Canadian females independently making music and trying to “make it happen” and for that I am grateful.” ~ Nelly Furtado

This year’s showcase features 17artists from across Canada – all are listed here:
http://www.honeyjam.com/ent/honey-jam-artists

These artists, hailing from Toronto, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Montreal, represent a diverse range of genres including pop, hip hop, R&B, soul, blues and rock. The lineup was announced at Honey Jam’s recent launch where platinum selling artist Victoria Duffield flew in to share her journey through the music industry and cheered them on as they impressed her by singing a medley of her hits.

Honey Jam has fostered the development of artists for 20 years, resulting in a slew of successful alumni such as Nelly Furtado, Melanie Fiona, Jully Black, Anjulie, Melanie Durrant, Andrea Lewis, Kellylee Evans and Reema Major. One of the artists who participated last year, Nefe, went on to win the RBC Emerging Artist prize, opened for Burton Cummings and was signed by Universal Music Canada and will be releasing her EP shortly. We expect her to soon join the ranks of our successful alums!

Tickets are available for $20 via ticketweb.ca or
Play de Record (357A Yonge St.) or at the door.

This is a 19+ event.
