XolisaHere

Xolisa back with another one!

“The past has gone and tomorrow has not come – so where we at?”

Toronto emcee, producer and songwriter, Xolisa (pronounced koh-lee-sah) releases the 2nd single off of her full-length album debut, “And Gaps Do Lead To Bridges” entitled, “Here”.

Written and produced by the Trinidadian-Canadian, the single stands as a declaration to both humanity and to self, offering the emcee’s observations on our society’s current state with the message that, “we cannot cross this bridge until we realize that it needs crossing, ‘matta fact. We cannot cross this bridge until we realize just, just where we at – we here.”

Over a landscape of progressive drums, abstract synths and dusty, psychedelic piano chords, Xolisa delivers to her listeners a message that unapologetically commands us of what we need to do in order to move forward as a human race, all the while offering a sense of humility as she simultaneously admits to her own internal conflicts and battles to overcome, in order to move forward just the same. “How can we move forward as a people if I can’t look at myself? How can I look at myself without admitting I need help sometimes?”

“Here” stands as yet another mark of Xolisa’s signature production and lyrical delivery – melding the worlds of Hip Hop’s boom bap past with an energy that has yet to come, and fits as another piece to the overall story of humanity’s exodus from where we are, to where we need to be.

Gawd damnit. Andreena’s BACK!!!! Gawd damnit. Andreena has a new project on the way!!!

p.s. Shouts to Drake and the whole sapper (singer/rapper) era but, generally speaking, when an actual singer sings the same songs it’s usually better, imho. Especially in a live situation.

NEW MUSIC: Haley Smalls – Controlla (Drake Cover)

HaleyControlla

Haley Smalls covers “Controlla” by Drake. Nice.

Haley Smalls is a singer/songwriter engineer and in other words, a young force to be reckoned with. With music pumping through her veins and a foot in the music industry from a very young age, Smalls has paved her way to working with Grammy Award winning & nominated Producers such as; Megaman, Boi-1DA (Drake, Nicki Minaj), Chuck Harmony (Ne-Yo, Mary J. Blige), Harvey Mason, Jr. (Beyoncé, Brandy Aretha Franklin), The Monarch (Rita Ora, Cher Lloyd), Rock City (Rihanna, Usher), The Phatboiz (Yo Gotti), alongside her management team Ebony Sons (DTP).

Smalls’ classically trained voice, distinctive mainstream sound and noticeable R&B influence makes her one of the most intriguing up and coming young artists out of Toronto, Canada.

In January 2014, Grammy award winning and multi-platinum selling artist Beyoncé Knowles showed her approval of Smalls’ YouTube cover of ‘Pretty Hurts’ by sharing the video on her Facebook page stating she “loved it”. Since, Smalls’ cover went viral and has reached over one million views and still growing.

Without losing any momentum, Smalls became a part of the formation of a new production and writing team, The Startaz lead by one of Toronto’s most accomplished producers – Megaman (Lil Wayne, Birdman, Tyga, Drake, Kid Ink, Bow Wow, Yo Gotti). Honing in on her writing skills, writing and recording over 120 songs, Smalls managed to find and create her own sound which resulted in the release of her first project ‘This Is Me’, a 16-track Mixtape produced entirely by Megaman, written by The Startaz that was released in April, 2015.

Haley’s second project “Imagination” was released on December 16th, 2015, ending off the year with a bang with appearances by Boi-1da and P Reign, and once again produced by Megaman, written by The Startaz.

Wasting no time, Haley and her team released yet another project on Feb 5th, 2016, an 8-track mixtape called “The Cure” that fully embraces a new and very modern, Toronto sound. This is available on DatPiff, Soundcloud, and YouTube.
