Full EP from that dude Grandtheft. There’s a couple instrumental joints as well as the traditional vocal-based songs like the title track (which is the best song overall for sure). Overall a solid release from the DJ / producer.

Grandtheft’s showcases his finesse in his new Quit This City EP. While Quit This City stays true to the club sound we know and love from Grandtheft, the collaborations and features are far-ranging and diverse. Each of the 6 tracks adds a new sound, dimension but artfully weaves together to create the EP’s enticing narrative. The title track Quit This City sets the tone and imparts a rejuvenating sincerity and honest quality that is rare nowadays. This EP is the perfect way to welcome Fall with its richer melodies & deeper basslines.

KJ‘s crazy push of late culminates in the release of his new album, Nights in Space A Short Film. Definitely looking forward to taking this one in as dude’s been confidently and consistently doing his own thing musically. The project is also going to be the soundtrack to an upcoming film so stay tuned for that as well.

New critical thoughts from Es.
While I don’t agree with his position of spreading the blame around with respect to our current race relations (it’s a variation of victim-blaming and very problematic), I think there are other sentiments in his message that make it pass-worthy.
This song was inspired by the events of the past 12 to 18 months involving police brutality, media portrayal and criminalization of people of colour and the varying opinions as it relates to race relations. The media portrayal of people of colour has in a way tainted our perceptions in many circumstances and situations. I approached this song from the vantage point of an observer (first verse) and that of a concerned parent (second verse). Check this out and see where I’m coming from. This is the way I see things from my vantage point. There is plenty of blame to go around. The first step in achieving any sort of resolution is to first acknowledge that there is a problem, then uniting as a people (regardless of skin colour) to find productive ways to move forward. There is NOTHING more counterproductive than having your problems and concerns dismissed as trivial or irrelevant. This is the core message in this one. Enjoy!

Woooooow! It’s been a MINUTE since Tanika‘s released some new music and still she remains one of the mainstays of Toronto’s live R&B scene. That’s simply a testament to her beautiful voice and spirit. Really happy to see a new push coming from her and looks like there’s a full album in the works as well……FINALLY!!!
“Soul Run”, the first single and title track from Tanika Charles’ full length album arriving in early 2016.
