NEW MUSIC: Church Chizzle – Hot Summer (EP)

ChurchSummer

Church Chizzle back with his another project for 2015. This one is a 7-track EP called Hot Summer.

Out of Toronto, Canada, the “Leader of the New School” Church Chizzle (@churchchizzle) returns with his 5th project, “Hot Summer”.

Just months after releasing his 4th full length project The ‘Go-To: Church 3 Mixtape, “The Leader of the New School”, Church Chizzle is back with another one (#DJKhaledVoice), with this 7 song EP entitled, “Hot Summer”.

Serving as a farewell to what has been a exciting and drama filled summer in the city of Toronto, the songs on this project, definitely embody the different atmospheres that took place since the release of The #GTC3 (June 2015).

With production from familiar faces such as Ya Boy Got Beats (YBGB) and RL Bowes, Chizzle receives some new dope sounds from fellow Toronto natives, “YoursTruly Provo & ManorHill Music”. Dope “Russian” producer “Kush Boy joins the fray with production on the record “Rice Krispies”.

If it’s one thing the #LOTNS has always provided, it definitely has been some dope lyrical content that always brings his listeners along on a climactic and melodic adventure, while taking in a perfectionist in this art form we call “Hip Hop”. Enjoy the tape and tell a friend to tell a friend.

NEW MUSIC: Scott Free – GUN (Prod. Prezident Jeff)

rez | Music | Monday, September 28th, 2015

ScottGUN

Latest from the StayOutLate crew / new joint from the artist formerly known as Spooks, Scott Free.

GUN, is the third release from Toronto based collective, Stay Out Late, upcoming EP “NEVER WINTER NIGHTS”, Produced by Bevstmode affiliate and long-time collaborator, Prezident Jeff, this record is an introspective and tormented affair through the mind of Scott Free.

Having spent the entirety of the past year performing across Toronto, including Canadian Music Week, Indie Week and a guest performance at this year’s NXNE music festival, Scott Free returns to the forefront with the release of “GUN”, following the success of his debut single, “Stay Out Late” last summer. True to his name, Scott has honed his sound to seamlessly incorporate unconventional undertones and brooding subject matter with contemporary elements into something deeper than trap. Unbound by conventional sonic limitations and structure, Scott experiments with new methods in creation to further push the genre forward, all the while cementing his place as one of Toronto’s most promising artists.

NEW MUSIC: Jae Ari – Screwface Flow feat. Anika Marie & Erik Flowchild

rez | Music | Saturday, September 26th, 2015

JaeScrew

Nice one from the homies Jae Ari and Erik Flowchild. Anika Marie with the assist.

It’s been a while.

Fresh off his 2 Nominations for the 2015 Niagara Music Awards, Jae Ari blesses listeners with new music.

‘Screwface Flow’ is the anthem of determination and persistence off an upcoming project that details a similar reverence. Anika Marie, a soul singer, offers us a truth: “I keep my head above it, cause I know my destiny”. Sounding the most poised and convinced, she delivers profoundly. The song’s fludity and hopeful energy are further complimented by Toronto emcee Erik Flowchild whos’ verse boasts the issues plaguing the city we now call “the 6ix”.

This lyrical and soulful performance is as always, worth a listen as Jae Ari preps for his new upcoming project to arrive shortly.

For a city that worships Hov the way it does, I always find it interesting how much the younger artists have embraced the heavy auto-tune sound considering “D.O.A” and the whole post-T-Pain-era backlash. Ah well…here we are. Still love “Sun Goes Down” though (no blatant auto-tune sound on that one).

FYI artists…Generally speaking, if the auto-tune is too heavy I usually pass on posting it up because I think it sounds wack most of the time. Just my humble two cents. I’m all for the melodic sound and dope melodies and all that but the auto-tune gots to gooooo…
