All this intermittent power-outage business means being able to post things right now is as tuff as trying to bake a Christmas cake.

Hopefully the eggnog in the fridge holds up… or maybe adding more whiskey will help (??). Be safe people!

Yung Santa (Phat Tony and Theo 3) might be on to a new holiday tradition: invite your rapper friends over to drink and make rap songs about your favourite Christmas beverages. On “Spiked Egg Nog 2”, four of Toronto’s finest celebrate the season with a healthy dose of festive debauchery on the mic. Theo invites Via Linez, Korry Deez and Arcee to the party and the results are as satisfying as the drink this track is named for. Tis’ the season to get wasted. So now would be a great time to turn up the Phat Tony track and pour yourself a glass of that good stuff. It’s pretty safe to say that in Yung Santa’s sleigh, man like Blitzen is running the show. Play that back Rudolph….

GENETICS

Toronto artist G Milla releases a new song entitled Genetics. This song depicts a story based on an inner city street kid. G outlines the street life of ‘Inner City’ caused by addiction, drugs, abuse and violence. A story that G can definitely relate to, this year has been a progressive one. G Milla has begun to make a name for himself with the release of his debut EP Downtown, and the follow up project Inner City. 2014 promises to be a great one for G as he’s been developing his debut album in LA since November. Stay tuned to G’s progress as he plans to ignite 2014.

Produced by Sholomo.

NEW MUSIC: Tone Mason x D-Sisive – Raging Bull EP

rez | Music | Friday, December 20th, 2013

Definitely looking forward to taking this one in this weekend. Here’s the added perspective I was looking for from D himself:

A week before Christmas, and two days before the release of this record – I was laid off from my job. Never has time been so appropriate to release a project like this. Sure, my albums are never filled with sunshine, but this flame came from a different pit.

Two months ago, I was contacted out of the blue by Grammy nominated producer, Mellenius [Tone Mason], via Gmail chat. It was a message so straight to the point I thought he messaged me by mistake. “I’m going to send you some new beats in a minute.” The last time we spoke was when I received a similar message from Toronto legend, Saukrates, to work with him on one of his new TM produced songs, Wednesday. Even then I don’t think I communicated with Tone Mason. Thrown off, I replied, “I think you have the wrong person,” and waited for an answer. I waited for three hours until I finally heard the notification bell. I clicked to the Gmail screen and read “No. I have the right person.” Next thing I know, my inbox was filled with monsters. Cinematic savages.

“We need to capture the rage,” Mellenius said. He brought up the movie, Raging Bull, and suggested the film be our foundation. I love the movie, and was totally down with the concept. We agreed to release the project on December 19th, the films 33rd anniversary. At the time, I was reading George Chuvalo’s autobiography, a Toronto-born boxer with a story similar to Raging Bull’s Jake La Motta. Everything clicked. I started writing.

A week before Christmas, and two days before the release of this record – I was laid off from my job. Never has time been so appropriate to release a project like this. I’ve always been fueled by struggle, and now my tank is full.

“So give me a stage where this bull here can rage.
And though I can fight, I’d much rather recite.” –Jake La Motta

That’s entertainment.

NEW ALBUM: Kaytranada “Instrumental Hiphop Is Dead”

The Kaytranada era continues…

Today we proudly present the latest HYPRETRAK Mix by none other than Kaytranada. The Montreal native has compiled an intriguing selection of hard-hitting unreleased production. Much closer to Dilla’s ‘Donuts’ than a DJ mix, this is essentially a raw beat tape – in the purest form there is. No tracklist.
