New joint from The Precious Lo’s. Maylee Todd on the assist plus there’s a remix with my dude Korry Deez from the mighty Monolith crew. Nice.

Taking some time aside from touring her critically acclaimed sophomore album Escapology and her recent release efforts in the electronic outfit Ark Analog, once again the multi-talented Maylee Todd is showing her vibrant collaborative colours. This time a playful, funky pop single More Than Friends has Todd performing with The Precious Lo’s. The track’s simple boom-baps coupled with a bouncy synth lay down the groundwork for a melodic duet between Todd and TPL’s Gil Masuda.

The Precious Lo’s EP set for release in Fall 2013.

About The Precious Lo’s

For almost two decades, under the Circle Research moniker, Gil Masuda and Nik Timar have lavished Toronto’s indie soul scene with a with a distinct production sound that blends Hip Hop, mid-tempo funk and off-beat rhythms. Apart from producing remixes for Apostle of Hustle, Ivana Santilli, Abdominal, Elizabeth Shepherd and Maylee Todd, CR is backed by three full-length albums of their own (Do Right! Music, MPM, Urbnet Records).

With their latest endeavor and for the first time, Masuda and Timar emerge from behind the mixer as songwriters and vocalists. Reincarnated as The Precious Lo’s, the two are completing their first EP – and the tastemakers who have had the privilege of previewing the material are already showing their enthusiasm.

KCRW’s Anthony Valadez has enlisted The Precious Lo’s for his upcoming album on Plug Research while steadily rinsing their demo tracks on his radio show. This past spring, MONOCLE’s Editor-in-Chief, Tyler Brûlé invited TPL to his London radio studio for a feature interview to discuss Toronto’s growing soul music scene.

Latest  pHoenix visuals supporting her “BBB Vol. 2” album, and as always delivering a tight, seemingly playful delivery, through a consistently critical and self-aware lens.

From her sophomore album “Books, Bucks & Beats Vol. 2: Rise of Baby Buddha”. pHoenix Pagliacci teams up with Atlanta’s own NOVA to bring awareness to rappers who are under the impression that talent lies within them. “LaLa Land” is a message as well as a warning and serves as a reminder that everything isn’t always what it seems…

NEW MUSIC: Kaytranada “At All” + Azealia Banks feat. Pharrell “ATM Jam” (Kaytranada Edition)

Keeping up with MTL’s Kaytranada via two joints he dropped recently: “At All” and a remix to Azealia Banks’ “ATM Jam” with Pharrell.

Montreal’s fastest rising producer Kaytranada dropped another gem yesterday, this time a remix of Azealia Banks‘s Pharrell assisted single “ATM Jam”. Premiered by The Fader, this newest remix comes on the heels of other recent remix work and a loose single “At All” premiered last week by Pitchfork, with a video on the way. In a short 24 hours, this latest remix has racked up upwards of 40,000 plays and is gearing up to be a dancefloor favorite for months to come, with The Fader giving praise to the production by adding that “Pharrell’s verse sounds better over Kaytranada’s micro shuffle and muffled claps than it does over Pharrell’s original beat.”
For the past year, the Haitian-born Montreal-based artist has experienced an explosive rise and made a very distinct name for himself with his unique brand of r&b and hip hop inspired dance music, equipped with an undeniable swing of the drums and a signature soulful touch. After self-releasing a couple EPs and beat tapes, followed by a release on HW&W and Jakarta Records, his name began to spread like wildfire with some instant-classic remixes by the likes of Missy Elliot, Janet Jackson, and others. This summer, he was approcahed by Brodinski to drop a single on the hotly-tipped French label Bromance. The result “Free Things In Life” was a huge succes, taking the young man on a sold-out European tour and just recently to Australia as well.
