After releasing Clayco to the world a couple of weeks ago, as well as being featured in XXL Magazine’s “The Break” shortly after; the track ‘LXVE’ is Derek Wise’s second release from his highly anticipated project “Mom’s Basement”. “LxVE” is produced by frequent collaborator Cristo Meth. Despite being only 20 years old, Derek paints a jazzy yet dark after-hours scene through his grizzled, raspy voice.
Sampling fellow hometown artist The Weeknd, Derek’s delivery is perfectly suited for this smokey track which gives us a deeper look into the artist’s relationship with women and money. Derek Wise’s new free album, Mom’s Basement is set to drop late summer 2013.
Something fresh from Elcee. With production from TREATS formally known as “skywalkrog”. Remember to download Elcee’s “LEOISM” if you haven’t already via www.elceetheartist.bandcamp.com
Elcee is working on his new project titled “Nature’s Coarse“. The concept behind the title is playing on the phrase “Nature’s Course” but using the word Coarse, which identifies with the realities of life being rough, but nonetheless inevitable, hence Nature.
For those unknowing of who Elcee is, he is a Recording Artist based out of Toronto, working with the Virginia Beach based collective JetPacks. At 23 years young with close to a decade of musical experience, Elcee is focused on being the next big thing out of Toronto, and as a household name Nationwide.
Marvel and Arcee connect to form Covert Ops. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice surprise. I remember Arcee talking about wanting to put this together. Dope to see it fully come to fruition. Consider this the taste. Peep the Bandcamp for the full album!
Shouts to the homies over at Backroad Radio who did a special 3-hr edition of their show on Canada Day which featured 100% Canadian hip-hop. If that wasn’t enough, like half the city showed up for a freestyle cypher. Can’t seem to embed the stream but just click below to download that bad boy. DOPE!
Last year we began an annual Canada Day tradition for our city which we like to call the Backroad Cipher. We invited some of Toronto’s finest MC’s to come through and rip it live on air with us as we rocked for 3 hours celebrating our city and its talent.
The 2nd Annual Backroad Cipher took place this year on Monday July 1st and was even bigger this time around. In the house spitting with us we had: Rich Kidd, Raz Fresco, 6th Letter, Smash Brovaz, Dan-e-o, Nish Raawks, Marvel, Phoenix Pagliacci, Theo 3, Frankie Payne, 9th Uno, OSIYM, Brandon Chey, A Harmony, Kzaraw, Bosquiat Clique, Via Linez, Lyve, ELMNT, Church Chizzle, Jae Ari, Jimmy B and more. All the original beats were provided by Lancecape and Frank Dukes.
Big up to every single person who came through to participate or just show love. The vibe was nuts. We do this for ya’ll Toronto so peep the show and spread the word.

Lancecape brings to you, the 5th single off his newly released project Return To The Classics. This time around he presents Rene Costy Ft. Dan-e-o “Face To Face”. This sample initially was used by one of his favorite producers, J Dilla, on the anthemic track “Fuck The Police”. Lancecape loves the song so much he felt it was only right to pay homage to one of the greatest to ever do it.
Featured on this track is none other than the Lyrical Mastermind himself, Dan-e-o. Being an MC for well over 20 years now, Dan-e-o is no chump when it comes to shreading a topic. “Face To Face” is much more than a concept. It’s a raw, uncut battle track taking aim at people who choose to call him out over social media rather than saying it to his face directly. Dan-e-o has had enough and has finally addressed the issue and feels anyone he may be talking about can get offended. But if they’re an MC (as they claim to be) they can keep it Hip Hop and settle it FACE TO FACE!
