The gorgeous Charlie Tyrell-directed, ethereal audio-visual experience marks the album’s 1-year anniversary (released on September 9, 2016 via Last Gang Records), and celebrates Harrison’s success to date. As Harrison’s music doesn’t feature his own voice, Charlie wanted to combine excerpts from a candid phone conversation he had with the artist, while en route from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Asia, where he would be touring for the first time. It features colourful lighting, vibrant party supplies, stop motion animation and live action footage. Following a year of accolades and award nods (2016 JUNOs for Electronic Album of the Year, and a 2017 Prism Prize nomination for It’s Okay I Promise feat. Clairmont The Second), Harrison will be wrapping up the season at Rifflandia Festival in Victoria, BC on September 17. This concludes a jam-packed summer tour for Harrison, as he rocked sets at Field Trip, Bastid’s BBQ, Osheaga, Supercrawl Festival and a headlining trek through Asia’s nightclubs. I’ve included a quote from Charlie below for more info.
On the video, Charlie Tyrell says, “Harrison’s music has always seems so vibrant and playful so we knew that we wanted to do something with colour. We were able to synchronize all of the house windows to different coloured lights by mad-scientist Romar Johnson, who normally designs stage lighting for live performances. Apart from that, the challenge of re-shooting a video with a new layer of stop motion overtop was possible thanks to animator Martha Grant. A few trips to the local party supply stores and an exhaustive week in the animation studio and we had it. The one thing missing off all of Harrison’s songs is his voice. And as we had many discussions about the song over the phone so it felt very natural to include them in the final product – making for a live action/animation/documentary-hybrid sort of video. One that allows Harry to reflect on where he’s at with his career today.”
It’s a Sean Leon kinda day. More lo-fi goodness from the kid.
TOOK A TRAIN TO FIND THE WORDS
“Staring in the mirror can be hard sometimes but true self-understanding comes from moments of clarity that we’re blessed with only after cathartic conversations with self.” – noel
“Since becoming a father I haven’t had much time to myself. I went to go visit my mom back in the east end, which is about a 30 minute car ride from Toronto or an hour via a solitary train ride on which I was blessed with the space needed to reflect. I was able to have a conversation with myself I hadn’t been able to have prior to that excursion because of responsibilities and my environment and things like that but yeah, I was able to gain some clarity on myself and have been reaping the benefits of that communication ever since. I wanted to document that. I wanted to show the viewer how many times I might talk to myself on any regular night within the span of 6 minutes.” – sean leon

Love this man. Dude has the confidence to just drop a video for a song from like 3 years ago. It’s either that or he’s super disorganized, lol. Either way…dope!

Yes! Bigg Soxx chops it up lovely on q. LIVING LEGEND!
Saukrates sat down in the q studios to talk about how he helped lay the bedrock for the Canadian hip hop scene, his connection to Drake, and how business crippled his most critically acclaimed album.
Get ready to meet the artists you’re talking about, and the ones you’ll soon love. Whatever you’re into — be it music, TV, film, visual art, theatre, or comedy — q is there. Expect deep insight, and big surprises. Because on q, arts and entertainment get personal.
Jessie chops it up with Genius about the big chune.
For such a young career, singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez has had an interesting path to mainstream music. Her interest in music started with playing the guitar as a child in Toronto, then later writing her own music in high school. She left Canada for Miami after graduating, only to come home and pursue her dreams in 2014. This lead to her releasing the song “Figures” in 2016, which is currently at 16 million streams and counting on Spotify and 334,000 Soundcloud plays. “Figures” centers a heartbroken Reyez, wishing she could feel less embarrassed about dedicating herself to an untrustworthy lover.
