The legendary DJ MelBoogie, celebrating the 20th anniversary of her career, assembled an incredible group of artists to illustrate her brand of hip-hop. Tara Chase, Jully Black, Eternia, Phoenix Pagliacci &JellyTooFly delivered an awe-inspiring performance that was one of the most talked about segments of the day, peep the video below!

Minty Burns shot “My Dream” while in NYC for the Smokers Club Tour 2013. The video is about the Canadian based rapper living out his dreams and exploring Hip-Hop in America.

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Mats Anderson, aka “Minty,” has spent the last several years honing his craft and developing an enthusiastic global fan-base. Minty is definitely making his mark as an up-and-coming artist to watch. Proving his dedication to his craft, Minty established his own recording studio, Belvia Sound, which has quickly become one of the more respected studios in Toronto. Artists such as Drake, P Reign, Raekwon, Sean Price, Slaughterhouse, French Montana, Waka Flocka, Kardinal Official and Travis Porter have all recorded at Mint’s Belvia Sound. Introduced to the hip-hop world as the winner of the 2007 Mic 4 Your Life Battle hosted by Mad Linx of BET, Minty has since released four projects in the last four years: Magnificent Road, ’09; Red, White & Green, ’10; and Canadian Mint, ’11, which was his most well-received release to date includes features and production from artists including Smoke DZA, Freck Billionaire, Emilio Rojas, MoSS, and MPhazes. His mixtape, The Vacation, was released in 2012. Minty has also opened up for acts including Young Money, The Roots, Jay Electronica, Smoke DZA, Down with Webster, Black Thought and BIG K.R.I.T. Taking his career to the next level, Minty has now teamed up with Cinematic Music Group A&R Gully on his newest project, “The Golden Ticket,” which is set to drop January 14th 2014, and includes production from Chase N Cashe, Arthur McArthur, Wondagurl, Rich Kidd, Showboiz and more.

And peep the dope spoken word piece above which took place at R.I.S.E. Poetry and was written as a gift for The White Ribbon movement. This is only Reesee’s 2nd spoken word piece, and first time performing it. Shouts to everyone in attendance.

500 random acts of beauty & Abuse: Survival Stories founder Reesee Zigga Zagga performing her second spoken word piece at R.I.S.E. Poetry. This piece was written as a gift for White Ribbon—the world’s largest movement of men and boys working to end violence against women and girls, promote gender equity, healthy relationships and a new vision of masculinity.

Interesting series I just caught via my man Nitai featuring Black Milk’s “Puddles” collabo with Ghanian/Canadian A K U A.

Detroit’s current crown producer/MC Black Milk teams up with up-and-coming Ghanaian/Canadian songstress A K U A, who you might’ve caught singing in Solange‘s band, (or just hanging out on Okayplayer, covering Prince) for this hazy installment of our Player Xchange series. In “Puddles,” A K U A lays down some hypnotically airy vocals that float steady over a signature avant-hip-hop Black Milk beat. Milk perfectly summed up the ethereal vibe of the track in his interview, explaining that “there’s a good contrast between [A K U A’s vocal] softness and that wind sample, like you’re kind of caught in that wind, blowing.” Watch the behind-the-scenes mini-documentary following the creation of the song and download Black Milk x A K U A’s “Puddles” below.
