A couple years ago when I was at MTV News I got word of an open mic initiative in Malvern getting a lot of attention. It was called R.I.S.E. and run entirely by young kids from the area. One of those kids was Randell Adjei and I would end up producing a profile on him and how he started the initiative with his friends and peers. This Monday will be R.I.S.E’s last event of the year. If you haven’t been to a R.I.S.E. event yet, this would be a good opportunity to check it out. Guest performers include John River, Esie Mensah, pHoenix Pagliacci, Adria Kain, Brooke Jean, Tuggstar, Wolf J, YHW, C-Flava, Te Holder and Zakisha Brown.
Shouts to Randell and the whole R.I.S.E team. What they’re doing over there is great. I wish I had something like this to look forward to when I was coming up in Malvern.
It all goes down Monday December 14th at 1081 Progress Ave. Show starts at 7:30pm

Get to know the youngin’ Clairmont The Second. Dope! Also had no idea that his brother is part of the OBGMs (he’s the drummer). Crazy!
“Being in the music industry, it can really mess your head up because of how corrupted it is but I have to stay grounded and know that God has me. I want to be financially stable, mentally stable, and have a stable fan base which can enable me to tour. I want my parents to stop working or at least do what they truly want to do in life. I want to be able to move out eventually and not worry about the costs of anything. Most importantly, I want to love what I’m doing and not have to feel like a sellout or anything along the lines of that. I want many strong relationships, from God, to people, to my work. I want the music to speak to many.” – Clairmont The Second
Just scratching the surface with Clairmont The Second. Learn more about his creative process, the relationship with his brother and what he has accomplished at the age of 17.
Tory Lanez is about to reach another rap stratosphere, so before that happens and he becomes untouchable, we kicked with the Fargo Argentina for a day in NYC. The rapper knocked out some press while he was in the city, on top of doing a show at Santos House Party later in the evening. We’re excited to premiere the video on Fargo Friday.
T Lanez definitely keeps busy. The day begins with an interview over at HOT 97, and then a quick lunch break for some “O.D. good” mac and cheese. Upon leaving HOT 97’s building, Tory hops into the whip and proceeds to roll up some bud, while giving us some insight on his constantly-growing fame, “I don’t feel no different, I don’t feel like we’re getting bigger…I feel like I’m at the same spot, and people are like you know your record’s blowing up? I’m like what the fuck are yall talking about.”
He then heads to Jersey Garden Mall to spend some time with the fans, and then finally, wraps up at the day by killing it on stage (and diving into the crowd multiple times). If you haven’t seen Tory Lanez perform live, this video will make you want too. His energy is crazy.
One of the dopest and (at this point) most underrated MCs in the city with some new visuals to accompany a new push. Hoping this is the project that gets him that solo attention he deserves. I think the change to Matthew Progress (as opposed to just Progress) is a good look too. And shouts to him for sampling Darth Vader, lol.
