Toronto songstress Staasia Daniels returns with a brand new single titled “Laid Off”. The song is off her upcoming project “Hidden Gems” which is scheduled for release on August 4th. “Laid Off” officially premiered today with Complex Music Canada.

“You know the funny thing about laid off is, I wrote it without a beat while I was vacuuming. It was just one of the many song ideas I had in my phone that I was planning on getting production for. One night 5PiECE was cooking up, and I really liked the groove. I started singing some of the ideas I had, and this one worked best. Xpress aka DJXP and EverythingOShauN were there with me, and I was like, yo… can this work, or nah?

Around that time, I had just gotten Laid off, but I felt so rich in my spirit (feeling like I’m in the playoffs), Plus, any other title would have been boring, lol. I wanted to have a song we could rock to, while still feeding our minds with positivity. Not another club turn up, or relationship record, but a song that can feed our faith, and help us to keep our eyes on the prize because ignorant people say nasty things to try and throw us off our game.

Nobody can do what I do and how I do it! They’re hand in hand, and the same goes for anyone else out there. If you’ve got a dream you’ve gotta protect it, go get it and encourage yourself!”

“Laid Off” and “Hidden Gems” will be digitally distributed by AWAL/Kobalt and available on all digital retailers and stream services August 4th!

First Nations electronic pow wow DJ trio A Tribe Called Red have unveiled
“R.E.D.,” their collaboration with Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), MC
Narcy and Black Bear, a drum group from the Manawan Atikamekw Nation in
Quebec. “R.E.D.” is a scalding song, a bleak beat stacked with synths, shouts
and a flurry of percussion. It’s from A Tribe Called Red’s forthcoming album
‘We Are The Halluci Nation,’ out September 16.
