2016 almost DONE!!! It’s been a totally crazy year full of joy, pain, WTFs, connections and heartbreaks but as always, music continues to help us through it all. At Cityonmyback.com we celebrate the music from our city and our home and every month compile this short list of songs from blog posts from that month. Hope you find the time to take it in…

Episode 4 of The Toronto Sound and another tight playlist featuring songs from the blog this month. From relative newcomers like SAFE (who dropped an incredible video for “Eternity” this month), to two of our favorite R&B singers in the city – Jayd Ink and Adria Kain, to a living legend like Tona and the return of the homie Luu Breeze, the September edition of The Toronto Sound definitely doesn’t disappoint.

Our guest this week is Jayd Ink. Born in Kingston Jamaica, she first came into prominence in late 2013 and hasn’t looked back. Her work has garnered acclaim from industry heavy hitters like Mannie Fresh along with incredibly talented artists and producers from BOB’s No Genre Label.
On this episode, we talked about her start in music. Jayd Ink answered why it’s important to travel as an artist, how she feels about singing rappers, and so much more.
Be sure to check this event on June 23rd featuring Jayd Ink. Read below for more details.

Phoenix Pagliacci (born Rian Hamilton) is a singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada. Growing up to the sounds of Motown, Soul, Blues, Jazz and Gospel, Phoenix’s introduction to Hip-Hop came in the form of 90’s sensations such as Bad Boy Family, Wutang and Roc-A-Fella Records.
In 2013, Phoenix was a participant in the Honey Jam showcase, an opportunity from which she would walk away with over $5000 in studio equipment, encouraging her furtherance in singing and songwriting, and prompting her foray into production.
