Intro to another new youngin’ in the city, Roy Wood$. Get caught up below and on the SoundCloud.
18-year-old Toronto native; Roy Wood$ premieres his first single “I Got” from the forthcoming EP “Exis” slated to drop at the end of 2014. Roy Wood$ is a unique talent with his rare note-hitting vocal performances, mature songwriting, and advanced rhyming-lyrical ability. “I Got” is an awesome introduction to his debut project which from the sounds of it, promises to be a special one.
Respect Magazine says; ” ‘I Got’ is a captivating look at his top-tier vocal talent paired with an equally beefy verse that sees him switch up from singer to rapper effortlessly.”
Roy Wood$ is an unassuming teenager from Brampton, Ontario who can most prominently be seen hanging around Welden Park, the surprising new centre of Toronto hip-hop located en College Street. What’s not so unassuming is the type of music that he’s making that’s got plenty of people in downtown Toronto buzzing about his sound. An equally skilled singer and rapper, Roy Wood$ makes
powerful music that reflects the often whirlwind lifestyle the city seems to be offering up to this new class of young talent.
Roy Wood$ started the year off with a boom dropping “Just Like That” with The Source Magazine; opening and wowing the crowd for
Yung Lean at the hoxton in Toronto alongside Sha hustle and TRIPSIXX. That was just the beginning for the 18 year old as he was consequently featured on TRlPSlXX’s summer banger “Goosebumps” which received widespread rotation an the internet and in Toronto turning up clubs during the summer. The most significant moment of the year thus far was at 99 Sudbury, a venue packing thousands and featuring only one performer in the biggest hip-hop party of summer 2014. Roy wowed the crowd with incredible energy and a powerful performance that saw him ultimately crowd surf on hundreds.
A steady release schedule and a host of upcoming videos and singles for the year should ensure a smash momentum building year for the young artist capped off by an EP at the end of year.

Thump chops it up with KNK.
There’s a long history of organically-driven bands incorporating electronic elements into their songwriting and performances. From Depeche Mode to Radiohead, a little bleepy-bloopy has often found a place amidst the guitars. But what’s made Toronto three-piece Keys N Krates stand out in the electronic music world is that they’ve so seamlessly incorporated dance music and hip hop, traditionally sample and DJ based genres, into a live setting. They’re switching up convention as they approach the organic from the electronic and their freshly released Every Nite EP brings a hip hop laden bassweight to a live setting like no one has before.
It hasn’t always been that way, though: “We’ve been a band for seven or so years. We started off doing live hip hop covers, re-interpretations,” explains Adam Tune, the band’s drummer. “It was kind of like The Roots with a turntablist. We used to have a bass player and Matisse played just one physical keyboard and I played drums. It really evolved gradually into what it is now, which is completely different. The only similarity is that we’re still a band and we’ll still take other people’s samples and flip them live in our show.”
