NEW VIDEO: L – Follow Me (Directed by Jason Matos)

rez | Video | Friday, April 27th, 2012

New joint from L called “Follow Me”.

Here comes L! Also known as The 12th Letter, this Toronto native releases the video for “Follow Me” off his mixtape Just Rap. “Follow Me” focuses on the tough decision many young men have to make between selling drugs and surviving. Tapping his own personal experiences, L deftly illustrates the trials and tribulations of this reality. Paranoia, anxiety and adrenaline are all heard in a flowing narrative that puts the audience inside the mind of a young man who’s turned to drug dealing. This is a story about lifestyle, hope and the shattering reality of what can happen when the street life takes a wrong turn.

The video is arguably L’s most ambitious effort to date and was shot by Jason Matos inside an old Toronto metal shop. Matos is best known for his work alongside artists like The Roots, Nelly, Trey Songz and Vado, with his videos charting on BET and MuchMusic.

“I attack the mind state of being on the street,” says L, who is currently working on his debut LP. “You have to be in a certain headspace to step out on the street and try to make money. With this song, I wrestle with this thought process and show you every step of my journey.”

VIDEO: Complex.com – One Of A Kind Music Access w/ The Airplane Boys

rez | Video | Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Complex.com chops it up with the homies Bon Voyage and Beck Motley from The Airplane Boys during their trip to the sunshine state for their performance at Coachella. Shouts to these guys man. Considering that they have no co-sign, no radio play and no major label situation (that I know of) they’re definitely getting a lot of exposure south of the border.

The One of a Kind Access bus, presented by Dr Pepper, made a stop in Santa Monica, California, one of the L.A. area’s best known beach communities. Santa Monica also happens to be known as a place where numerous musicians got their start, thereby earning its place on the One of a Kind Music Access road trip, which includes layovers in 23 different musical hubs across the country.

Complex will be posting video from the bus throughout this unique adventure. We got to sit down with rap duo The Airplane Boys, straight out of Toronto, who are spreading their bold sound throughout the world. Click the above video to hear them talk about the challenges of just starting out, and what keeps them going today. You can also keep up with the #alwaysoneofakind hashtag on Twitter for the latest and questions from the Complex Twitter account. Answer correctly and you could win a trip to the last stop on the One of a Kind Music Access trip.

Gawd damn. Son’s outta control, lmao.

Vancouver’s SonReal drops ANOTHER mixtape…and get this…in preparation for his upcoming debut album Good News. Stoopid productivity. Shouts to him and Byron for the relentless push. Full tracklist under the hood.

As an appetizer to Good News, SonReal releases the 18 track mixtape entitled, Words I Said.  SonReal enlisted fellow Canadian spitters, Rich Kidd, Luu Breeze and JayKin to bless the tape.  Good News coming soon!   SonReal’s thoughts below and artwork attached

“Words I Said is a collection of records I wrote and engineered in the process of working on my debut project Good News. It wasn’t just some marketing plunge directed at the new project, but a way of showing appreciation for my fans for being so patient with Good News. I wasn’t going to put out some of these records due to me evolving as an artist, but at the end of the day when it’s all said and done: these are Words I Said. Enjoy”  -SonReal

NEW VIDEO: Rich Kidd & dj NaNa – Confusion 2 (Directed by Marie Richer & Philip Rae)

rez | Video | Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Official viz for the Ritchie + NaNa joint “Confusion 2”. This make my head hurt, lol. Could be I’m just really hungry tho…

Rich Kidd vs. dj NaNa 2 is below if you missed it. Here’s the full video blurb too:

The music video “Confusion” was directed by Marie Richer and Philip Rae (uomotoo) for Rich Kidd and dj NaNa for their their 2nd instalment of the “VS” series.

*DOWNLOAD DJ Pack (clean/explicit versions):http://www.sendspace.com/file/zcnsth
**DOWNLOAD MIXTAPE :http://www.richkiddbeats.com/features/richkiddvsdjnana2.zip

The idea of the video was to create as much visual confusion as possible. The concept was based off of the Dadaists Exquisite Corpse. We contacted several Designers and Visual Artists from Toronto, Canada and abroad (Spain, France, Italy) and gave them a lyric to interpret, with no clue what was before or after. For many of the international artists, english was their second language, which offered an extra layer of complexity and confusion in itself.
There was no guide lines except the length of the lyric (in seconds and frames) and the dimensions of the footage or still.

The video features the talented work of: Gillian Candidi, Alan Lukatela, Michael Tung, Matt Johnson, Joel Derksen, Alan Thatcher, Nick Fox, Kevin Voirin, Ebony Haynes, Marta Verde Baqueiro, Ken Murphy, Carlie Waksdale, Vishana Lodhia, Kfir Gluzberg, Liam Johnstone, Tanguy Barker, Dave Murphy, Jordan Clarke, Kate LaRue, and Ricardo Leite.

D.O.P: Somsanith “Dee” Bouabane, with additional photography by Michael Tung.
