Another new one from BBRC – albeit, with quite the history. See below. This one featuring Evidence & The Alchemsit.

A prelude is a short piece of music that introduces longer and more complex movements that succeed it. Stylistically, the prelude is improvisatory in nature and features a small number of rhythmic and melodic motifs that recur through time.

1995: Mobb Deep’s acapella “(Just Step) Prelude” leads into “Give Up The Goods (Just Step)” on the group’s sophomore LP, “The Infamous.”

2011: Alchemist and Evidence record “Just Step,” nodding to the Mobb Deep original. The session files are sent to Notes to Self for further collaboration and use on their “Recoil LP.” It’s ultimately decided that the recording doesn’t fit in context of the album.

2012 Notes to Self revisit the “Just Step” session, harvesting a 2-bar excerpt of Alchemist’s vocal track and using it as the hook on their single release, “All of the Above.”

2015: The Alchemist and Evidence verses are liberated from hard drive purgatory and appear in full on the “Lord Steppington” LP, released by ALC and Ev under the group name, “Step Brothers.”

2016: Notes to Self, now BBRC, revisit their 2012 RECOIL sessions, finally finishing their version and releasing the official collaboration, “JUST STEP REMIX.”
