This week on A Waste of Time with ItsTheReal, we welcome the legendary music video director, Director X (formerly known as Little X), to the Upper West Side! X, who helmed masterpieces for Drake, Jay Z, Kanye, Rihanna, Sean Paul, Aaliyah, Nelly, and so many more, talks about his roots in Toronto, growing up on religion and comic books, and the prophesy of Drake Aubrey Graham. X discusses his journey into music video production, how he developed his own style, and the speed at which other directors stole his aesthetic. X also goes into detail on creative collaboration, TV and film production, how he reacts to social media outreach, and how to work with product placement in 2016, in this fascinating episode!
Chedo chops it up with that girl Adria Kain. Get to know easily one of the dopest artists in the city. Still sleeping? Start with “Sunrise” below. And man…this is one of the realest interviews you’ll hear about what it’s really like being a straight up indie artist in Toronto. The struggles when it comes to money are so real.
I’m proud to present Adria Kain on this week’s episode of The Come Up Show Podcast. Adria created “Kainsoul” as her own genre of music, and produced songs such as Colours, Sunrise, and Kainthem. She has collaborated with producers like Elaquent, Monte Booker, and Jessy Aarons.
On this episode, we went over the timeline of her album releases and what she was going through. We also discussed the struggle of doing what you love and asking people to pay you for it and so much more. Take it in.

So I apparently missed literally everything about this show a couple weeks back (sorry G!) but here’s a nice interview with one of the dopest singers in the city. If you forgot…this woman is responsible for one of the most classic hooks on a hip-hop track that the city ever put out (Sean Boothe’s “One by One”).
Definitely looking forward to checking out her new music!

To accompany the live performance, Chris Stylez chops it up with Jon Chattman.
R&B artist Chris Stylez is a fresh, unique voice whose rapid success in the music world has been thus far unstoppable. His recently released EP, “Who Is,” has been featured on Spotify United States Viral 50, the UK’s Viral 10, and Snapchat Discover’s “Under the Ghost” Channel. It has more than 50 million total plays, topped by use in more than 10,000 clips on Vine, and has charted in 14 countries on Spotify’s Viral Charts, including France, Portugal, Spain, Poland, and Austria.
About A-Sides with Jon Chattman: Jon Chattman’s music series features celebrities and artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometime humorous) way. No bells, no whistles – just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, Jon strives for a refreshing change.
Ms. Chawlz doing the press tour in support of her latest project, Soul Run. Couldn’t embed the videos so visit the National Post page to take ’em in (as well as the full interview)!
For her latest album, Soul Run, Edmonton-raised artist Tanika Charles not only bares her, well, Canuck soul, but her infectious energy, which she’ll be sharing all across Canada on tour this month.
Soul Run is heavy with heartbreak and heat, from a woman who has been wronged and has a lot to say about it, on the streets of Toronto to those of Vancouver.
Charles dropped by the NP Sessions studio to play a few songs off the album, and talk about the man she ran from and that other one she ran into (who goes by the name of Drake).
Q: What is a “soul run?”
A: A release, an escape, but in the best way, from a situation that isn’t the best for you. It’s learning who you are, allowing your soul to grow for a positive life.
Q: Toronto has been a big part of your history in music in the last few years. How much of an impact does it have on the album?
A: This album is from Vancouver to Edmonton to Toronto and chronicles experiences I had from each province. There was something that happened in each city that affected me enough to write. Toronto is interesting, because I love being here but I love leaving it and missing it.
