Yes, yes, I’m well aware that Wayna isn’t Canadian, but the video’s director, producer (Addis Embiyalow and Kate Fraser), editor (La Pointe), and I’m pretty sure many of its cast and crew ( Nabil Shash, whatup Z!) are from Toronto, and it looks like it’s shot in Regent Park (??)…. aaand it helps that it’s a dope record!

Shot in Toronto by acclaimed director Chris Muir, the video for “I Don’t Wanna Wait” tells the story of an all-girl baseball team, who faces the challenge of a rival squad and creates a lasting, triumphant memory. The team, also called “the Expats” hail from various parts of the world — girls, bravely playing an iconic American sport and lending theirs to the conventional image of being American.

“I Don’t Wanna Wait” is the new single from Grammy-nominated, Ethiopian singer/songwriter, Wayna. A sonic blend of Bob Marley, Motown, and golden-era Hip Hop, the song is about embracing life and not living on the sidelines. Produced by German beat maker, FARHOT (also known for his work with Nneka), “I Don’t Wanna Wait” is featured on Wayna’s highly-anticipated EP, “the Expats,” named after the diverse group of international musicians and producers who worked on the project. “the Expats” will be released this Fall 2013.

FREEDOM WRITERS TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM ‘NOW’ IN OCTOBER 2013

Over the past two years, the Toronto hip hop collective Freedom Writers (Tona, Adam Bomb, Frankie Payne, Theo 3, Progress and Big Sproxx) have successfully released the singles ‘Wake Up’, ‘Arizona Bay’ and ‘For The Change’. The six-man collective are set to release their debut album, titled ‘NOW’.

The 17-track album highlights the inspired production of in-house producer Big Sproxx and the socially conscious rhymes of the five core emcees that make the Freedom Writers. Toronto-based artists Ian Kamau, Ayah, and T.R.A.C.K.S. of IRS all provide guest appearances, reinforcing the sounds and messages the Freedom Writers have united to deliver.

Big Dada are pleased to announce the signing of Tre Mission on a three album deal. The twenty two year old MC and producer from Toronto found a common Caribbean heritage in the rhythms and slang of grime and quickly developed links with the UK scene, forming strong bonds with Wiley and JME, amongst others, and appearing on “Lord Of The Mics 3.” Earlier this summer he released the mixtape (or as he prefers, “free album”) “Malmaison” which showcases his skills both as a producer and a lyricist, and which has already spawned a series of high quality videos from his team as well as racking up an impressive amount of downloads. He was recently decribed by the Independent as “one of grime’s hottest talents.”

“To celebrate the signing of his deal with the label, Big Dada are working the double-AA single “Brunch / High Fashion,” featuring two tracks from Malmaison. A further video for the tracks is forthcoming and the tunes have already had plays from Tim Westwood, Logan Sama and Mister Jam. A full debut album will follow in early 2014.”
