Brendan drops visuals for my favorite cut from the slew of joints he’s dropped in the last couple years! New EP on the way!
Edited by Nicole Sison for School Editing.
The visionary space case known as Brendan Philip is a singer/songwriter from Toronto. Through music, he has created a diverse and experimental listening experience that is altogether romantic, yearning and at times incoherent. It is an atmospheric sound for the vagabond laced with cosmopolitan ideals and psychedelic anguish.
BP was the first place recipient for the 2013 Harbourfront Soundclash award, sharing the stage with hip-hop jazz powerhouse BADBADNOTGOOD. In addition he has shared the stage with soul giant, Bilal and Toronto wordsmith and Warped tour headliner, Shad
Bren was recently featured on Toronto emcee, Keita Juma’s house hop lead single, ‘Come Over’ which climbed to number 1 on AUXTV’s Top 25 video chart. This record broke ground as the first indie rap release to chart #1 on the station.
Along with BP is the FAROUT gang who are all poised to impact Toronto music and the art world at large with Culture Power. Truly the dawn of a new day of our present future.

As members of the Toronto based collective 88 Days Of Fortune, ATS describes their third album as aggressive yet therapeutic. A release, a way to process, as well as a method of self care. Their Afro-Futuristic inspired production is a mashup of dub, trap, hip hop, and world beats overlaid with vocal loops and samples.
Their newest single “Ghost” produced by Sunsun , mixed by Red Bull Jamaica’s @MixedbyLytes (aka Tandra Jhagroo), is a reflection of their lived experiences. The song talks about loss of friendships, miscommunication, frustration, and self medication. Look out for their video dropping in a few weeks and their album “Above Top Secret” due in the summer.

Latest pHoenix visuals supporting her “BBB Vol. 2” album, and as always delivering a tight, seemingly playful delivery, through a consistently critical and self-aware lens.
From her sophomore album “Books, Bucks & Beats Vol. 2: Rise of Baby Buddha”. pHoenix Pagliacci teams up with Atlanta’s own NOVA to bring awareness to rappers who are under the impression that talent lies within them. “LaLa Land” is a message as well as a warning and serves as a reminder that everything isn’t always what it seems…
“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I present to you Exhibit pHoe in the case of Wack Rappers vs. Reality.”
Once again Brotha J and Big Sproxx team up to create some visuals for the 3rd Official Release off of the Brotha J Mixtape entitled “You Already Know Me” Set to drop April 30, 2013. This NevR representative has been building a track record for having some of the dopest vocals we’ve heard coming from a male vocalist in Toronto.
Just listen to Brotha J’s “Officer Down” or “Shine” (videos also directed by Sproxx) and you’ll agree, this brotha could be on a level with Soul artists such as BILAL and D’Angelo. Toronto born, raised in the Regent Park Community, the genre of Hip Hop Soul is being led by this Juno Award winning Singer/Songwriter. Brotha J is truly somebody to watch this year

First introduction to IvanUnknown and his ‘sublime electronic soul’ via two very compelling records: “Make It By” (Produced by LAL’s Murr) and “So Close So Far” (Produced by Middlefield).
I’ve known this guy for yeeeears and he’s been dabbling with the music-thing for a minute, but definitely good to see him putting out new material in 2012.
Looking forward to hearing more!
