NEW VIDEO: Grandfather Mantis “One Hundred Years”
Produced by Ben Webster
Edited by Carlo SchefterGrandfather Mantis presents his new video, “One Hundred Years”, a graphic account of the travesties of the last hundred years told from the perspective of an angry god.
“As Grandfather Mantis, I am an emcee who uses my love of word play and cadence as an outlet to express what I see and experience in the physical realm where I dwell.
I have a strong affinity with the classic novelists, especially the vivid imagery of the science fiction masters.
For me personally, Hip Hop is a form of expression that is more complete than either simply singing or writing, since it allows me to channel not only my thoughts but emotions into a cohesive piece of music.
I have a strong desire to continue the tradition of thought-provoking lyricism, and also a deep love for the repetitive drive of a good beat. Ultimately, its a part of my life I cannot live without.”
Grandfather Mantis has worked with Toronto artist such as St. Peter, Muneshine, DJ ZForbes and DJ Grouch.
With his live band, The Shadow Monks, he has played at many of Toronto’s premiere venues including Lee’s Palace, The SIlver Dollar, El Mocambo, and The Opera House.
In 2010, Grandfather Mantis and the Shadow Monks released their self-titled debut EP. They are currently set to enter the studio in January to record new material.
